We’ve officially hauled Sabado out of the water at Port Whangarei Marine Center in New Zealand, and the refit has begun! In our latest video, we take you through a day in our new routine: starting the morning at our rental house, commuting to the boatyard, and diving into our first big boat projects. We kick things off by tearing apart our bed to prep for a major power system upgrade. We also give you a tour of the yard facilities, and remove our cockpit fridge to make way for a new one. It’s a strange feeling seeing the boat on land with empty cabinets, but we’re excited (and a little nervous) about what’s ahead. Take a look inside North Sails’ brand new UK sail loft, which opened its doors today. The loft is based in Gosport, on the southern coast of the UK, and will house a number of global departments under one roof. These include Superyacht finishing andsail production for One Design and North Sails 3Di. Set to be North Sails’ European flagship facility, the loft will enable North Sails to remain at the forefront of sail technology, innovation and manufacturing. Gosport is the first loft in the world to specialize in superyacht sails, and it’s gigantic raised floor – measuring 1,950m2 – is the largest ever built. A team of 9 designers and 82 staff members are aided by state-of-the-art technology and equipment, ensuring sails are delivered quickly, and safely – with no compromises in quality. The space is split into two manufacturing bays, and the main floor is designed to cater to superyacht sail finishing. Measuring 101x30m, the space can accommodate two J-Class headsails and a mainsail laid out simultaneously. The secondary bay is dedicated to One Design sailmaking and Certified Service sail care.
