Les 31 juillet, premier et deux août prochains, Écovoile Baie-des-Chaleurs accueillera des dizaines de marins de tous âges dans le cadre de la troisième édition des Régates Écovoiles Desjardins. Les visiteurs et la population locale sont aussi conviés à venir festoyer sur la plage municipale de Carleton-sur-Mer ou diverses activités sportives et récréatives sont organisées pour l’occasion. Les 31 juillet, premier et deux août, la troisième édition des Régates Écovoiles Desjardins fait place à des marins de tous âges qui régateront, toutes voiles dehors, sur notre magnifique Baie des Chaleurs. À cette occasion, musique, animation et diverses activités sportives sont organisées pour tous sur la plage municipale de Carleton-sur-mer. Sous le grand chapiteau, service de bar et de restauration offre sushis, hot dogs, bières du Naufrageur et rafraichissements. En soirée, soupers au profit d'Écovoiles. Au menu vendredi : de savoureux hot dogs de luxe à l’européenne et samedi des Moules du Large offertes gracieusement par Sylvain Bujold. Les billets pour les soupers sont disponibles à Écovoile. Pour couronner le weekend, à 21 h samedi, feu de grève et soirée acoustique en contes et en chansons. Les Régates Écovoiles Desjardins sont rendues possibles grâce à de nombreux partenaires financier dont les Caisses populaires Desjardins, la Ville de Carleton-sur-Mer, la Microbrasserie le Naufrageur, Esso, Otis ET FILS AINSI QUE ses partenaires médiatiques : GRAFFICI, CIEUFM ET CHAUTVA.

A rogue wave from a different direction to the general wave train hits my boat while hove to (not sailing) in a storm, 100 miles off the Australian coast on passage from New Caledonia to Brisbane in November 2017. This was during my single-handed sailing circumnavigation in Fathom, my Vancouver 28. The tiller is not lashed completely to leeward as I was experimenting in keeping some way on. Conditions improved enough after 3 days that I was able to start sailing again and safely make landfall. If I had tried to close on the coast in these conditions it could have been a disaster in the shallow water and even bigger breaking waves found in the South Australian Current (another solo sailor was rescued at the time). We are Anthony & Cindy. Our boat is Impavidus (Latin for Fearless) In June 2018 we decided to retire early, we sold everything to sail around the world on our modified Bavaria 37. In our First season we made our way from our berth in Port Solent, Portsmouth, England. Down the South West coast of England to Dartmouth and down to the Mediterranean We crossed the North Sea/English Channel to Roscoff in France. Working our way down to Brest and on to La Rochelle, France. We spent the summer sailing around the Bay of Biscay and down through the Spanish rea’s and on to Portugal. From there we spent two weeks on the river Guardiana on the Portuguese/Spanish boarder. We entered the Mediterranean in September of that year and eventually stopped in Almeria Spain for the winter. Since then we have sailed on, through Spain, the Balearics, (where we spent 3 months) before heading back to the mainland of Spain to Barcelona and then on through Southern France and down the West Italian coast and its beautiful islands. Eventually finding a wonderful family run marina where we have wintered in Gaeta, Italy. Our two doggies Oscar George and Lady Rose are sailing with us. Both quite old they have adapted well to life aboard. We have been sailing and boating for 35 + years. Both starting at school in England; But we still learn something new every day! We are hoping to sail down the Italian coast to Sicily and on to Greece or possibly Croatia this year. We have had Impavidus since new in 2015 and we spent a full two years, while still working, adding to the equipment and inventory. Everything we thought we would need….. AIS, Long-range fuel tanks, Extra water tanks, rope cutters, a Brunton Auto prop, Extra solar, extra batteries, a freezer. Then all the ancillaries and equipment we needed.
