Foi dada a largada para a 48ª Semana Internacional de Vela de Ilhabela realizada entre os dias 24 e 31 de julho de 2021, no Yacht Club de Ilhabela (YCI), no litoral norte paulista. Neste domingo (25), aconteceram as primeiras regatas, Alcatrazes por Boroeste, Ilha de Toque-Toque e Renato Frankenthal. O grande encontro da modalidade conta 80 barcos das principais classes de vela oceânica, como ORC, RGS, Mini Transat, Multicasco, Bico de Proa, Clássicos, C30 e HPE25. E, pela primeira vez, reúne regatas presenciais e virtuais, com as provas online feitas pelo aplicativo Virtual Regatta Inshore. We caught up with Team Loustic SuperSonic waiting out the weather at the John Wayne Marina. They told us all about their hull and deck coming apart. The deck is attached with pop rivets and many of them failed along one side for about two meters of the seam—when they realized the boat was acting sluggish, they looked inside to see at certain tacks, waves of water coming in filling the boat with about 100 gallos of water. They have since repaired it quite nicely and they're drying off all their gear, ready to go on. The boat otherwise handled really well.
