Rose is learning to help out around the yacht, one job at a time! She started hovering at the top of the ladder whenever I was trying to get out so I’ve started passing her gear from the water so she can carefully grab it and set it down on the transom. She’s still figuring it out (some bites are better than others 😂), but the goal is to have her drop everything on the deck or in a bucket, maybe even working up to doing it on the tender too! Until then, she’s still earning her keep as first mate, head of security and our onboard wellness coach. Prefer to support the channel as a 1-off? Originally from Sturgeon Bay, you can now find Utopia in Manitowoc, Wisconsin! Dockside visitors can explore this beautifully crafted vessel, which was designed by Fred J. Peterson of Peterson Builders, Inc. in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and built in 1946. Utopia’s unique features include a steel double bottom for strength, wooden hull sides for warmth, and twin Detroit diesel engines. Visitors can marvel at her elegant lines, learn about her global circumnavigation, and appreciate the craftsmanship that has kept her sailing for decades. Utopia currently resides under the stewardship of the her new owners based in Manitowoc Wisconsin, where it continues to inspire curiosity and passion for the Great Lakes among learners of all ages.
