To find north using Cassiopeia, look high in the northern sky to locate the five bright stars that form a distinct "W" or "M" shape. Focus on the central peak of this shape, which acts like an arrow pointing out toward the open side of the constellation. Draw an imaginary line straight out from this central bend and extend it about five times the overall width of the constellation. This line will lead your eyes directly to Polaris, also known as the North Star.
