Dee Caffari explains what a 7th circumnavigation means to her after the team aboard The Famous Project crossed the line off Ushant to set a new record for the first all female crew to complete a non-stop lap of the planet in the Jules Verne. Their performance in a boat that is clearly of a very different generation to the current crop of foiling machines and requires the crew to sail it in a more conventional way, makes for a fascinating story. When it comes to global records, it’s easy to simply focus on the first and the fastest and disregard any trip that doesn't meet this binary challenge. But when you look at the number of failed attempts at just completing the course, whatever the gender make up in the crew, simply completing it is a huge achievement. Their trip was successful because of their determination and resilience above anything else and their story is a fascinating one. Oggi si fa il giro di boa. Mezzo viaggio fatto, metà strada percorsa. Subito mi viene da pensare “Di già?” pur andando tutto estremamente lento, mi sembra che il tempo voli via insieme alle miglia. D’altronde siamo già a 1.100 percorse. Mille miglia Mille pensieri Infiniti ricordi. Più ci avviciniamo a terra e più penso di amare l’oceano. Chi ha navigato in altura conosce la sensazione di smarrimento ma anche di accoglienza da parte di questa sostanza inanimata ma ugualmente pregna di vita. Non a caso il blu è il colore che rilassa e che un animo intenso sia profondo come il mare. Questo viaggio sta allineando alcune tracce e sta facendo cambiare tutti. Onde alte, panorami importanti. 💙
