As I continue traveling through Japan’s longevity hotspots, I keep hearing a surprisingly common response from people who remain active, healthy, and engaged deep into old age: “I don’t worry too much.” And I notice something else as well. They laugh easily. This Short is another small Field Note from my ongoing research into healthy aging, community, and what I call “Red Zone Rebels”, people who seem to compress the years of decline often associated with old age. Yesterday we performed a phase out inspection from charter management for the owner. After the inspection on the mooring, a sea trials on engine and sails was carried out, after which the sailboat was taken out. In a few days we will return for a visual inspection of the underwater part, measurement of capillary moisture and inspection with a thermal camera.
