If you were wondering where the dive site gets its name, the site has a series of gutters running up to the top of the reef flat, which according to Peter Tibbs (the original Dive school of Cairns) appears like streets running down between the skyscrapers of “New York”.

It’s finally time to cross the Atlantic. All the lights are green, Tiboulen hoists the sails as it leaves the port of Mindelo, sailing alongside three other Jeanneau boats from different generations. ⛵ For most of the crossing, Sail for Tomorrow were on the same tack (port tack at 150° to the wind), with the same sail configuration (wing-on-wing, genoa poled out), and more or less the same speed (5.7 knots on average). The crew experienced some incredible moments during this crossing. Fishing was a highlight, halfway through, they crossed paths with one of the three Jeanneau sailing boats. Today was my birthday. We had hoped to be in Faial by now, but we are still one day away due to a low pressure system that pushed us in the wrong direction for days. Birthdays for me is my favorite thing. I love to spoil others, make them feel special on their day - but even more I love my birthday! And Gabi knows this. And she knew it would be a chance it would be celebrated at sea - so she came prepared and made my birthday absolutely amazing. The highlight was maybe the letters she had gathered from family and friends for me to bring with me to the GGR and read of I’m having a bad day. It’s such a privilege to have friends like that.
