From theory to practice ⚓️✨ One of our students Andreas from Switzerland , (position to be added) just completed both the Sailing Theory Course *and* the Sailing School with us — and hearing their words after the journey means the world. He began online, learning the foundations step by step. Later, he joined us on deck — setting sails, navigating, and discovering the rhythm of real life at sea. 🌊 It’s a journey of patience, courage, and new skills coming alive with each mile. These stories remind me why I love teaching. Watching someone grow from curious beginner to confident sailor is pure magic. ⚓️ Ready to start your own journey? Our next Theory Course begins September 2025, and the next Practice Week takes place November 1–8, 2025 in Mallorca.
This Rogue was built by a luthier as the "just-right" size amongst John Welsford's many capable camp cruising sailboat designs. Here it sails in Puget Sound with other participants in the 2019 Salish 100 Small Boat Cruise. Off Center Harbor is an online destination for great boats, stories, and boating skills: www.offcenterharbor.com/yt-1910/ The Rogue is 14'7" long with a 4'5" beam, rigged here as a yawl with a leeboard but capable of diverse rigging configurations. John Welsford Small Craft Design: http://www.jwboatdesigns.co.nz/ Welsford Rogue: http://www.jwboatdesigns.co.nz/plans/rogue/index.htm The first-ever SALISH 100 was a small-boat cruise in June 2019, running the length of Puget Sound--100 nautical miles from Olympia to Port Townsend, Washington, including more than 100 watercraft ranging from SUPs to kayaks, rowing boats to pocket-cruising sailboats, and about 15 larger support boats, otherwise known as Motherships. Planned overnight stops along the route included Hope Island Marine State Park, Penrose Point Marine State Park, Gig Harbor, Blake Island Marine State Park, the Port of Kingston, and Mats Mats Bay before reaching our final destination in Port Townsend.
