► Full test in our Special Issue 20 Forever Green 2: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/hopyacht-30-for-making-short-hops-under-sailand-electric-power ► Nominated for the MOTY 2023 in the Forever Green category, the HopYacht 30 is offering a new and refreshing approach in the somewhat traditional world of boating... this catamaran designed by Du Toit Yacht Design makes no pretentions in terms of performance, focusing instead on ease of handling and practicality in general. Indeed, the HopYacht 30 features a single furling genoa supported by a mast logically stepped very far aft. The designers have limited the beam to 11 feet 3 inches (3.44 m) in order to limit the cost of a marina slip. The HopYacht can be disassembled and its two hulls each fit into a standard shipping container. This catamaran will therefore be crossing the oceans as deck cargo - it is approved in CE Category C (Beaufort Force 6 and maximum wave heights of 2 meters or 6½ feet). In addition to its genoa, the HopYacht is powered by two 6 kW E-Propulsion pods, equivalent to 9.9 HP regular motors, but without pollution or noise of course. With the adoption of an induction cooker and an electric water heater, no fossil fuels will be consumed on board. The interior, not dissimilar to what you’d find in the riverboat sector, is surprisingly comfortable for a unit of this size. The manufacturer is also offering an interesting model of shared ownership for 6 people (or 3 couples). ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: HopYacht Architect: Du Toit Yacht Design Length: 30’8” (9.35 m) Beam: 11’3” (3.44 m) Draft: 2’4” (0.7 m) Air draft: 39’4” (12 m) Sail area: 318 sq ft (29.5 m²) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! As the wind and waves increased it is a wet ride for the jib trimmer down to leeward on our Mumm 36 racing yacht. As the spray pounds into his face it is all eyes on the leach of the sail, making minor lots of adjustments to allow the skipper to carve through the waves while keeping the speed on. The Mumm 36 loved the breeze and when she was setup correctly with lots of mast bend in the breeze she could power through most conditions without having to put a reef in the main. Continual minor trim adjustments where needed to keep the boat in the groove and make life easy for the skipper need to be in in tune with the changes to sail the boat fast. The team at bottom up boats loved the Mumm and the fun we had while racing her as hard as we could on strangford lough and beyond.
