We caught up with some of the 29er sailors at the Irish Sailing Investwise Youth National Championships in Howth Yacht club today (April 15th 2023) to find out what they love about sailing. The 29ers are one of the fastest growing classes and have a great mix of boys and girls competing together and against each other. Split is the second-largest city in Croatia and the largest one on the Dalmatian coast, so it stands to reason that you will have a blast when visiting. This historic city dates back some 1,700 years, with Diocletian's Palace sitting at the centre of its history and Old Town. This impressive waterfront city is the perfect starting point for all your adventures along the coast, however it is also well worth some dedicated time to explore all the city has to offer. Here are our must-do things in Split: 1. Visit Diocletian's Palace - built in the 4th Century by Roman Emperor, Diocletian, the palace is now UNESCO Protected and is one of the best-preserved examples of Roman architecture. 2. Climb the bell tower at the Cathedral of St. Dominus and take in the incredible views of the Old Town, Marjan Hill and surrounding islands 3. Sip coffee and people watch on the Riva Promenade; a waterfront city location featuring palm trees and polished marble floors 4. Wine and dine at Republic Square 5. Rub the toe of the Grgur Ninski statue located just outside the palace walls, which is rumoured to bring good luck! 6. Climb Marjan Hill for beautiful views across the city of Split. The park is full of pine trees, walking trails and even a small local zoo! If you're planning a trip to Split, check out our comprehensive guide to the city here: https://www.sail-croatia.com/set-sail/destination/split
