The RORC Myth of Malham Race is one of the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s most respected offshore tests and Race 2 of the 2026 RORC Cowes Offshore Series. Starting from the historic Royal Yacht Squadron Line in Cowes, the race sends the fleet west out of the Solent, along the English Channel to round the Eddystone Lighthouse, before returning to finish near the Solent. At approximately 235 nautical miles, the course delivers a classic Channel challenge, testing boat speed, tidal strategy, crew work and stamina. The Myth of Malham Race also carries deep RORC heritage. It is named after John Illingworth’s famous yacht Myth of Malham, winner of the Fastnet Race in 1947 and 1949, and part of the victorious British Admiral’s Cup Team in 1957. The 2026 race is an important early season event in the RORC Cowes Offshore Series, a seven race programme starting from Cowes, Isle of Wight. It is also part of the RORC Season’s Points Championship, the world’s largest offshore racing series. Race crews, friends and families are warmly welcomed at the RORC Cowes Clubhouse on Friday 22 May for drinks and the Myth of Malham pre-race supper at 1900. Booking is highly recommended.
