Backing out of a slip in a crosswind is all about controlling the bow. With the boat docked bow-to, reverse straight into the slip channel and build enough sternway for good steering control. As you back out, expect the wind to push the bow downwind. In light wind, you may have room to turn in the slip channel and continue out ahead. In stronger wind, it’s often safer to stay in reverse and back all the way into the main channel before turning.
