Our apprentices at The Pioneer Sailing Trust work on commercial projects, building Harker's Yard rowing gigs. The first 19 gigs were built from a cold-moulded construction, using three layers of mahogany. These wooden coastal rowing gigs are based on an East Coast design, specifically adapted for racing. They are slightly shorter (24ft) than traditional Cornish gigs and are rowed by a crew of four, plus a coxswain. These gigs are a key part of the coastal rowing scene in the East of England, with the Harker's Yard Gig Association (HYGA) organising a popular winter racing series. The current gigs are a composite version of the East Coast gig with the same specification, but instead of cold-mouldered, the hull is made from fibreglass with a wooden fitout and built-in buoyancy. With thanks to the The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Lottery players for help in supporting our projects! #thepioneersailingtrust #HarkersYard #Pioneer #Rowing #HarkersYardGigAssociation #HeritageFundUK

This week I'm spending some time back home on the Isle of Cumbrae. After more than 10 years living in Australia, I'm starting to realise just how much I took this place for granted. In this video, I'll share a bit about why I moved back to Scotland, give you a tour of my floating home, tackle a few boat jobs, and explain how I recently managed to lose an anchor! I'll also be exploring the island by land and sea, revisiting some of my favourite spots and rediscovering what makes this place so great!! 10% of all profits from these videos are donated to marine conservation projects in Scotland 🌊 🍿 WATCH NEXT: COSTS OF LIVING ON A SAILBOAT: https://youtu.be/WRafLL63ewU?si=GCCMW-YP_aVBLhspMY FIRST SOLO SAIL: https://youtu.be/AOeVM_hZEuI?si=pdIG6h6Md862Bmbh SHIPWRECK STORIES: https://youtu.be/FC2FycryeXg?si=nzLDLIs3uMVqQ8vG 1000KM OF SOLO BIKE-PACKING: https://youtu.be/lJDS4WUS-F0?si=TtEFNyPF9MtrHCD6 WE CYCLED THE LENGTH OF NEW ZEALAND: https://youtu.be/iEWj6Kcl_NM?si=77ggYVzpBmNQw_m8 EXTRA CONTENT ON PATREON: ⛵ Get access to exclusive uncut sailing videos, behind-the-scenes footage, and sneak peeks of upcoming adventures: https://www.patreon.com/c/_kayleighbrown MY OTHER SOCIALS: 📸 INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/_kayleighbrown/ 📱 TIKTOK: https://www.tiktok.com/@kayleighjeanbrown/ 🎥 FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/kayleighjeanbrown/ WITH THANKS: I just wanted to say a huge thank you Wild Earth for their continued support.
