Back to the boat.. After five weeks away—and a little longer neglecting the boat while working on my book project—I’m heading back out to Wahine. The manuscript is now submitted, and while I wait for feedback, it’s time to give the boat some overdue attention. First job: pump up the SUP and check for leaks, so I can get back and forth more easily while moving Wahine further up the inlet to tackle some boat projects. It also saves hauling Mitsu’s heavier tender back into the water. Nothing dramatic. Just the practical realities of life afloat—tools, tides, and a bit of trial and error. Good to be back. The beam is lofted from the plans and hand cut on the shop floor. It is then fitted between the bulkheads and fully welded. A backing plate is fitted and welded over the join at each side.
