For our Garcia Exploration 45 we decided to stick with the standard gas cooker, to maximise our autonomy in places where solar performance is suboptimal. When we do have plentiful electricity we’ll use induction and microwave cooking. Did I say we’re in a rolly anchorage? It is rolly, but it’s a well protected marina. A ripper English Channel winter storm started on cue in the middle of the night and hasn’t let up all day. Carolyn and I were up at 2.30am to check what was banging (the anchor in the bowsprit) and to stop our tender from becoming an aeroplane. Carolyn’s mooring line cleat hitches were all holding well - the day dawned and we were still in the same slip, which is the plan.

Ein wenig Wind kommt doch noch auf. Aber der uralte Vari-Spi ist nicht mehr als ein nettes Spielzeug. Viel Vortrieb bringt er nicht

Misty and I just took a bike ride to dog beach here in Huntington Beach and I wanted to show the current state of the surf and beach. It's mellow right now but it looks like we've got some more weather coming tonight. If it gets nuts I'll post another video later. Cheers! - Andy

Hayrack boom option A Sparcraft Masts option that allows the mast and stack pack to consume less vertical space. This one is another upgrade and another one we will have on Mira. We originally thought about the in-boom furling option, but when this option was added, we changed our minds. Advantages: Allows the boom to be lowered (and with changes to how the spinnaker halyard exits) the mast can get below 65’ from the water (ICW bridge compliant) with no change to sail area Wider sail flaking area which makes putting the sail away easier This also allows the lazy jacks to attach further outboard on the boom, making snagging battens while hoisting way less likely Disadvantages It cost more. Way less than the inboom furling system, but still about a $4k upgrade
