The marina takes on a different persona when the sun stays low and the cold winds start to blow. I went to check on “Moments in Time” during the winter solstice. The boats on the hard were whistling in the wind, the sounds of laughter and tinking of drinks from the pool area had long departed, droning of harbor traffic remained eerily silent, and the lapping of waves had become more pronounced. J109 Going to Red gliding by GBR 7737 from the IRC 0 fleet during Volvo Cork Week 2024. The crew on the downwind boat was calm as the boats converged, making only a small adjust to ensure they stay clear. Shortly after the close cross it was time to take on the lay line and get after the leaders of the IRC1 race who had got the jump on the redline racing team at the start.
