When sailing through a channel that splits, knowing which way to go is critical. That’s where preferred channel markers come in. These buoys are marked with both red and green colors, with one color dominant — showing which side of the channel is preferred. 🌍 Region A: Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Gulf, and some Asian countries 🌏 Region B: North, Central & South America, Japan, North & South Korea, and the Philippines In Region A, “green to starboard” keeps you safe. In Region B, remember “Red Right Returning.” Understanding these rules helps beginner sailors avoid confusion and navigate safely. 🔗 More sailing tips, cheat sheets & free downloads here: [bit.ly/LatestCheats] 👉 Watch our full sailing guide: https://youtu.be/30csRFMZh24 ⚓ Subscribe for more beginner sailing tutorials, navigation tips, and how-to guides to help you sail with confidence.
► Las Palmas, almost an unavoidable stopover on the Atlantic route from Europe, welcomed thousands of sailors during the month of November, when the north-easterly trade winds begin to set in. These crews included a total of 1,300 sailors flying the ARC colors (ARC and ARC +) aboard 253 sailboats. During our visits to the pontoons, we got a measure of the Starlink revolution: only one entrant was equipped last year, compared with 80% of the fleet today... The quality of the connections offered by this satellite operator makes it possible to efficiently follow weather developments, keep in touch those ashore and even work as if at the office! For the first time since we’ve been following ocean-going crews, Vincent, aboard Outremer 51 Piment Rouge, will be sharing his transatlantic passage with us via his videos, which we’ll be relaying. Another special feature of this 2023 edition will be the large number of diesel cans strapped to the guardwires: in a context of very light winds, unusual for the season, the engines (authorized with a penalty for the Multihull category) are likely to be much in demand aboard many of the multihulls. After two weeks of seminars, meetings and safety inspections, the atmosphere on the docks was becoming truly electric during the last three days running up to the start. Studying the weather, stocking up on fresh supplies, washing fruit and vegetables - everyone realized that there was an ocean to cross... Some crew members are more Zen than others: the oldest sailor in the ARC, Joff Hutchinson, 89, declared: “I’ve been sailing for 82 years and I’ve always wanted to cross the Atlantic. Now that my sons have retired, there’s no better time”. The start was relaxed, with the fleet setting off in a light southerly breeze and glorious sunshine, guaranteeing a smooth start for everyone to get their sea legs. ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! We’ve had interest in Dazcat boat sharing partnerships, or co-ownership. We won't take on the management of any co-owned boats but are happy to help you to find potential co-owners on a location basis – this is how it works: - If you’re interested in co-ownership get in touch with us. - If we know of someone in your area, with your permission we’ll put you in touch. - If we don’t know of someone we’ll make a location-based shout out, as seen on the video. - When someone responds, we’ll put you in touch to discuss your wants and priorities: What model of Dazcat/ Whether to race, cruise or both/ How many partners/ What type of contract etc. - When you’re ready you can come and talk to us about your boat and its requirements. - Of course we are happy to talk to you at any stage of your planning and offer a test sail as per our usual client service. For our first location shout out we have two people in the UK Solent area interested in a Dazcat 1295 build, to be ready for sail in 2022. They are looking for one or two more partners. One of these may want to upgrade plans to a 1495. We have another person interested in the US/ Canada Pacific NW region: Vancouver/ Seattle/ Portland. Contact us at: info@dazcat.com Or find out more about the Dazcat range and prices and Dazcat boat sharing here: https://www.multihullcentre.com/dazcat-catamaran-range/ If you're not in these areas but interested in a Dazcat boat share, contact us anyway as we have people interested in a variety of locations or can do a shout out for you.
