Have you ever wondered how and why we apply the flecks of colour you see on our floor? On traditional flowcoat floors, fleck provides much needed grip to what would be an otherwise slippery surface. On our modern moulded floors, the grip is provided by our 'non-skid' pattern and the fleck is just there for it's good looks! It is the first thing we apply to the mould. Each colour is carefully sprinkled with a spray gun to ensure an even application before the next solid binding layer of gelcoat and in this case the customer's choice of Storm Grey. It may look bumpy on the mould, but it'll come out looking silky smooth when we pop this part. The first test of our Dyneema loops that replace metal chainplates as part of our full Dyneema Standing rigging project within the full refit of our 1977 Rival 38. We are refitting our Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising. That includes no fossil fuels, updating the rig and deck plus much more.
