For a review that explains how the Velodyne Martinin 1.5 works: http://features.boats.com/boat-content/2013/03/the-velodyne-martini-1-5-active-suspension-on-a-boat/ For more videos from the Miami Boat Show, visit www.boats.com. The Velodyne Martini 1.5 was the wackiest, and most technically impressive, thing I saw at this year's Miami International Boat Show. In a nutshell, the Martini 1.5—so-named because it will keep your drink from sloshing—is a pontoon boat with active suspension. The system is the creation of Velodyne founder David Hall and a team of very enthusiastic engineers, some of whom were at Miami and gave me a demo ride on the boat. Hall and the Velodyne name may be familiar to audiophiles, as he got his start in 1983 with a patented, accelerometer-based High Gain Servo System to control sub-woofer cone movement. The company, which is based on the fringe of Silicon Valley near Morgan Hill, California, is still in the speaker business and has also developed the Velodyne LiDAR system used for 3D mapping. At Miami, one of the engineers explained that the Martini 1.5 is based on the same premise as their original speaker, "but instead of measuring and reacting to the movement of the speaker cone, we are reacting to the movement of the boat deck to cancel out the action of the waves."
Sailing in Croatia is already a breathtaking adventure on its own, but add a golden sunset over the Adriatic Sea, and you get a memory that stays with you for a lifetime. The sky explodes in shades of orange, pink, and deep red, reflecting off the calm water as the sun dips below the horizon. There’s a unique kind of peace that settles in at that moment—one that you can only truly feel while gently gliding across the sea. With an experienced skipper at the helm, safety is never a concern. You can fully relax, sip on a glass of local wine, and take in the beauty around you. The skipper knows every bay, island, and hidden gem, guiding the boat with ease so all you have to do is enjoy the ride. Whether you're sailing with your partner, friends, or even solo, it feels like time slows down just for you. There’s something incredibly freeing about being on the open sea, especially during sunset. The soft sounds of the waves, the warm glow of the sun, and the feeling of total disconnect from everyday stress—it's pure happiness. You laugh more, breathe deeper, and appreciate the moment like never before. As the stars begin to appear and the sky turns to night, one thing becomes absolutely certain: this is not the last time. Sailing at sunset in Croatia is more than just a beautiful experience—it’s something that calls you back again and again. We’re already planning our return. And if you’ve never tried it, trust us: you should. ALITIS YACHTING Prilaz Ivana Visina 5, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia +38598229437 yachting@alitis.hr
Step inside and feel the raw energy! These 1600 horsepower MTU V10s are the heart of this beast, and they absolutely knock your socks off with their presence. But I'm seriously impressed by the thoughtful touches—like these beautiful stainless steel handrails. It's the detail that matters when you're navigating sloppy waters; stability and grip are just as critical as sheer power. Take a look at this masterful engineering! #MTUEngines #EngineRoom #1600HP #V10Power #MarineDiesel #BoatLife #EngineeringMarvel #PowerUp
