How to tie the Anchor hitch. ▫️ Also known as an Anchor Bend although that's a bit of a misnomer. This can be used to fasten a line to an Anchor, a warp to an Anchor chain or to tie your tender off onto a ring at the dock. Careful, it can jam, but it should be fine under moderate loads. ▫️ It's similar to a round turn and 2 half hitches except you tuck the working line through the loop of the turns giving you more friction and a stronger hold. Finish it off with a half hitch. ▫️ Add an extra turn at the beginning if you like. Why not? Yesterday as well as last night was a tricky 24 hrs for Conrad, who has been making slow progress due to a high pressure that appeared in his path. To distract himself and calm his nerves down, he’s made for us a fun advertisement out at sea. This J109 lost control of it's spinnaker while sailing in the 2025 Scottish Series. With the tack line up and the halyard a 1/4 off the A-Sail quickly turned into a Kite Surfing rig and tried to accelerate the boat down win. A simple sailing manoeuvre in big breeze can turn into a sailing fail in seconds if the whole crew is not on top of their game. The crew needs to be co-ordinated and all the lines need to run freely to ensure the spinnaker makes it be to the boat as planned While we were not watching to figure out what lead to this our guess is the skipper was not running deep enough when the started the drop. If you are running square and have the kite behind the main it helps create a wind shadow which makes it easier to control as your crew race to complete the drop. ⚓ We still shout at each other when we drop anchor and then act like nothing happened afterwards 😆 ⛵ I (Greta) still question if the boat will actually turn back upright when we start heeling 🍜 Sometimes offshore “dinners” are just cup noodles and that is totally fine 🛠️ We have clear job assignments that have not really changed in the last 7 years 🧽 We procrastinate when it comes to scrubbing the hull 🌊 We still have a lot to learn. Sailing is not something you can fully master in a classroom. Some lessons only come from being out there in the elements.
