La leggenda dell’antica peschiera romana del Murenario affonda le radici nella storia e nel mistero della Calabria, un angolo ricco di tradizioni e di leggende affascinanti. Il Murenario è un'antica struttura che risale ai tempi dei Romani, situata lungo la costa degli Dei, vicino a Tropea. Si racconta che questo luogo fosse una delle peschiere più grandi e sofisticate dell'epoca, utilizzata dai Romani per l'allevamento di pesci marini, in particolare per la produzione di garum, la celebre salsa di pesce tanto apprezzata nell'antica Roma. Secondo la leggenda, il Murenario non era solo un luogo di pesca, ma anche un posto misterioso, avvolto da un'atmosfera magica. Si dice che la peschiera fosse custodita da una divinità marina, un'antica sirena che, per proteggere il suo regno, incantava i pescatori con il suo canto ipnotico. Molti raccontano che chiunque avesse cercato di rubare pesci dalle acque sacre del Murenario fosse stato condannato a scomparire misteriosamente, come se il mare stesso li avesse inghiottiti. Il Murenario era anche considerato un luogo di incontri segreti, dove nobili e pescatori si riunivano per discutere dei destini del mare e delle loro città. La costruzione della peschiera stessa è avvolta nel mistero, con le sue enormi mura che sembrano essere state fatte per sfidare il tempo e le forze della natura. Alcuni dicono che le pietre fossero state portate da terre lontane, mentre altri sostengono che siano state benedette da Poseidone in persona, per garantire che la peschiera fosse sempre piena di pesci e che il mare circostante fosse generoso. Oggi, la leggenda del Murenario continua a vivere, accompagnando la bellezza di questo luogo incantevole.
