Recently we completed a a rare GEM 💎 of a Point Defiance, with some custom woodwork that we just had to capture on camera. Still photos didn't do it justice, so we took walkaround video to show it in all its glory. This boat has now sold, but we wanted to capture its jaw-dropping custom wood inlay seats for posterity. Built with extensive customizations, this sailboat features lightweight kevlar composite construction, wood trim with decorative rope bumper, deep "endeavor blue" gelcoat stripe with gold and white pinstriping, and incredible detailing on the custom wood seats. Just look at that custom "swirl" woodwork around the mast step! The 12' Point Defiance is a versatile sailing and rowing boat, very forgiving and a true pleasure to row and sail. It works well as a ship-to-shore tender, but is also a fantastic knockabout daysailer in its own right. For more about the Point Defiance, visit https://www.ghboats.com/our-boats/12-point-defiance/

J109 Going to Red was in the presence of sailing royalty during the Harbour Race of Cork Week 2024. Shortly after the start of the race J109 has a close cross with IMP, the two time winner of the famous Fastnet race. I was worried that our main sheet trimmer was going to jump ship to join the crew on Imp. I kept us far enough away to avoid the second man over board incident of the week. The team at Bottom Up Boats hope you like this short clip from our week of racing at Volvo Cork Week 2024.

Built in 1938 as 'C10' for the admiralty. She was renamed Destiny in 1958 and sold by the MOD in 1963. Since then she has been owned by Husbands Shipyard, Star Tugs and now owned by a South Wales Businessman, she carries his name 'Thomas'.

No more propane on our boat! All electric baby! With 920 Watts of solar installed, we decided to gut the old propane stove and rebuild it with an electric induction cooktop. It was actually easier than we thought, and involved drilling out a few rivets and repurposing some parts. The result ended up looking pretty great, and we even have a shelf in the middle for storing pots and pans. Unfortunately, only a single burner induction cooktop would fit, so we’ll have to make do. We moved the microwave to the bottom of the stove, which frees up some much needed counter space. We purchased a small countertop convection toaster oven so we can still toast and bake things, if needed. Have you ever thought about doing this?
