150 concubines & a Golden Library: Part 1 of Bangkok’s most iconic temples! We kicked off our tour at the Grand Palace, and it’s even more breathtaking than the photos. Here is what you need to know: 🏰 The "Hybrid" Palace: See that building? It’s Chakri Maha Prasat. The King wanted a European palace (like Buckingham Palace), but his court insisted on traditional Thai roofs. The result? A stunning East-meets-West masterpiece! 🤫 The Inner City Secrets: Did you know that a "forbidden city" existed within these walls? At one point, over 150 concubines and wives of the King lived here in a private female-only society. No other men except the King were allowed to enter! 🙏 The Emerald Buddha: Thailand’s holiest treasure. It’s carved from a single piece of jade and is so sacred that only the King can touch it to change its seasonal clothes. 👹 Demons turned Guardians: Those giant, colorful statues were once powerful demons. After being defeated in the ancient legends, they were "hired" to serve as eternal protectors of the temple. 🌸 A Ritual for Luck: We were sprinkled with holy water using a lotus bud for good fortune and happiness. 📚 The King’s Library: That massive golden building (Phra Mondop) houses ancient scriptures on silver floors. It's so exclusive that only the King has access. Save this for your Bangkok bucket list! 📌 Which of these facts surprised you the most? The 150 concubines or the golden library? Thank you to the SO's of Erik Andreaa and Capt Glenn Shephard, as well as Malvina for getting this amazing footage for us! When we were invited to race on a Volvo Ocean 70 for the Halicarnassus Cup in Turkiye, we knew we would be in for a day of adventure. What we did not expect was for the spinnaker to blow on us as we were cruising downwind at 15 knots! It's a good thing our crew jumped into action right away, and we were all able to work together ro get it under control.
