Although the island-continent of Australia has only 26 million inhabitants - just 8% of the population of the United States - it nevertheless boasts a huge community of sailing enthusiasts and yacht builders are also well established. This context has been conducive to the holding of a major international boat show in Sydney since 1968. A second major event was launched in 1989, at the Sanctuary Cove marina complex at the northern end of the Gold Coast, and in 2008, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (just) beat its rival to the south. The 2024 edition, held from May 23 to 26, attracted almost 50,000 visitors, 300 exhibitors, 740 boats and no fewer than 2,500 boating products.
