A shorty peek at removing an emergency boat repair patch on our steel motorsailer Alaskan Gypsy. Armed with a hammer and chisel, I take on a temporary fix made of Z-Spar Splash Zone epoxy, 3M 5200 marine adhesive, a rubber gasket, and an aluminum backing plate. This short clip shows just how tough these materials bond — and why I hope I never have to do this again. 👉 For the full breakdown and repair process, check out the long version on our channel -- https://youtu.be/aDeaPw7b6VY
It was a welcome return after a few days in the shed for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli who looked utterly sublime in their LEQ12 (as they always do), revelling in the 13-15 knots conditions and determined to put maximum pressure on their Wing 03 and new Wing 04 to extract the maximum data. This was a session of rapid pace, searing bear-aways and plenty of straight-lining to validate the computer simulations in a very real world environment. The on-water recon team noted the sailors pushing the foils through rapid JKs and several stints of acceleration and deceleration as they assessed the stall and detachment points on the foils. The recon also noted take-off speeds between 17-18 knots and top upwind speeds of 36-38 knots whilst downwind the best guess was speeds at up to 45 knots – the bear aways were what Jimmy Spithill called “high numbers” as they really pushed the LEQ12 hard. #AC37Recon #shorts SUBSCRIBE to the official America's Cup channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/americascup Like America’s Cup On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/americascup Follow America’s Cup On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/americascup Stay up to date with the America’s Cup newsletter: https://www.americascup.com/en/newsletter The 37th America's Cup will be Defended in Barcelona by four-time America's Cup winner, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand. #AmericasCup #AC37 #Barcelona2024
