After sailing 32,500 nautical miles around the world I want to give a shout out to my two loyal and exceptional crew members. They never talk back to me, require feeding or fall asleep on watch. In a perfect world they would make cups of tea and wash the dishes but I can't complain. The Aries windvane has kept Fathom on course in all sorts of conditions from 5knots of wind to 50knots of wind, flat seas to tumbling waves, upwind and downwind. I couldn't have got this far without it and have spent many hours watching it do its business without complaint using no electricity and only the power of the wind, a truly fantastic piece of engineering. Secondly the Aquair 100 tow gen. The generator is mounted on the pushpit and the forward motion of the boat spins a metal propeller at the end of 20m of rope. In winds over 15kts the drag created is unimportant and in tandem with the solar panel it keeps the batteries full and the fridge going 24/7. Cheers to both! This is Pink Beach, Komodo! This exceptional beach gets its striking colour from microscopic animals called Foraminifera, which produces a red pigment on the coral reefs. This is why it’s called Red Beach (Pantai Merah) in the local tongue. When the tiny fragments of red coral combine with the white sand, it produces the soft pink colour that is visible along the shoreline. ~~~ #pinkbeach #komodonationalpark #komodoisland #komodo #liveaboard
This squall line really hit us by surprise. It was a wall of rain and almost 80 knot gusts that hit us full force. Unfortunately the holding in Black Sound at Green Turtle Cay wasn't the greatest and boats started dragging. Cory had to start driving on anchor trying to steer into the wind while taking pressure off the tackle. We ended up wrapping our chain onto a mooring ball in this madness which kept us in place. We faired far better than some, losing outboards boats dragging on moorings and some aground in the area. Luckly only our bow roller got bent and that was all. What an adventure! #shorts
Arrived in Bangkok, checked into a hotel near Khao San Road. Survived around 30min at Khao San - nothing like the charming and colorful night markets at Chiang Mai. Everyone hated it - even the teens! Left the hotel the next day and found a much nicer and more authentic area of Bangkok to stay in and explore.
