Sixteen years ago, Paul Foerster and Kevin Burnham of the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team captured the gold medal in the Men's 470 at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens over the 27-boat fleet. Foerster, a four-time Olympian, and Burnham, a three-time Olympian, had both medaled in the Olympics before. In three prior trips to the Olympic Games ('88, '92 and '00), Foerster had won two silver medals in the Flying Dutchman ('92), and the 470 ('00). Burnham earned a silver in the Men's 470 class in 1992. Foerster and Burnham joined forces in pursuit of a gold medal in 2004 and the pair succeeded triumphantly. With the win, Burnham became the oldest gold medal winner of all Team USA athletes at the 2004 Games. Foerster and Burnham were named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year for their gold medal performance. Gary Jobson catches up with these Olympic champions to reflect on their historic win and learn more about how they are engaging with the sport of sailing today.
► Full test in our Multipower Special Edition: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/cora-48-a-powercat-designed-for-cruising-in-australia-or-elsewhere ► Built in Thailand at the highly reputed PMG shipyard, the Cora Cat 48 is an evolution of the Heliotrope 48. Philippe Guenat and naval architect Albert Nazarov, who created the Cora Catamarans brand, designed a new deck mold and have completely redesigned the interior. The 48 is constructed using the infusion technique to save weight, while the sleek hulls and good bridgedeck clearance reduce drag and limit slamming. Limiting your speed to 8 knots, you can enjoy a range of 1,400 nautical miles. The Cora 48 is a semi-custom unit and is available in several versions, with 2, 3 or 4 cabins. The main deck is topped by a huge flybridge and that, too, is also available in several versions. ► Technical Specifications Builder: Cora Catamarans/PMG Shipyard Length: 48.39’ (14.75 m) Beam: 23.72’ (7.23 m) Draft: 3.25’ (99 cm) Air draft: 22.66’ (6.79 m) Light displacement: 36,800 lbs (16.7 t) Powertrain: 2 x 280 HP Fuel capacity: 525 US gal (2,000 l) Range: 1,400 miles at 8 knots CE Certification: A ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! Hurricane Ian left a path of destruction across Cuba, Florida, and the Carolinas on October of 2022. When it swept through Daytona, it was a tropical storm for a while before again becoming a hurricane. But it sat there battering Daytona for a long time, and eventually managed to wreck our sailboat on the bank of the Halifax River. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We can't produce quality inspirational content indefinitely without the support of our fans.
