I was speeding away from Tokyo after a week at an aging conference when something unexpected interrupted the moment: A photo, A first. And then a question I hadn’t been asking: Is there an arc of firsts across a lifetime? Read the results of my deep dive here: https://www.nevertoolateacademy.com/post/is-there-an-arc-of-firsts-across-a-lifetime About me: I’m Lowell Sheppard, 71, sailor, author, and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. I’m the Founder of the Never Too Late Academy and Special Advisor to the International Forum. After years living aboard my boat Wahine, I’m now traveling across Japan exploring longevity, purpose, and the art of living well at every stage of life. #Longevity #NeverTooLate #Curiosity #Aging #japan #fuji #newborn

The two halves of the 16x30 wind tunnel are joined. As in boat building, the composite team built a mold from the precision cut frames, and laid in the composite layers. In this particular case, the parts were made in quadrants from male molds which create the inner surface of the wind tunnels. To finish the inner surface, the inside of the tunnels includes a layer or gelcoat. When assembled the wind tunnel will be 30’ long with a 16’ diameter. This tunnel is destined for a major academic research facility on the East coast of the United States. Among its many aerodynamics functions, the tunnel will be used to support aerospace research projects. Lyman Morse Technologies, LLC regularly executes non-marine projects.

It's a little known fact that masts makers Southern Spars built one of the Kiwi America's Cup winning boats. Emirates Team New Zealand mechanical engineer Martin McElwee explains which boat brought the Cup to NZ and how the lessons learned in the production of America's Cup masts at Southern Spars flowed both ways and even into boat building.
