I do not like retirement homes. That may sound provocative, especially as aging societies rapidly build more of them. But after traveling across Japan’s longevity hotspots and researching healthy lifespan, I increasingly wonder whether separating generations may actually accelerate decline rather than slow it. This article is not simply a criticism. It is also a reflection on how we might design aging communities differently, places where older people remain part of the wider rhythm of life rather than parked outside it. Read the full article here: https://www.nevertoolateacademy.com/post/why-i-do-not-like-retirement-villages Lowell Sheppard is a long-term resident of Japan, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, founder of Never Too Late Academy, and Special Advisor to the International Academic Forum (IAFOR). He is currently traveling across Japan researching longevity, healthy lifespan, and the role of community in aging well. He is the author of ten books, including the forthcoming Longevity and the Art of Community: Lessons from Japan, exploring what modern societies can learn from Japan’s remaining pockets of strong intergenerational culture and healthy aging. #HealthyAging #Longevity #Intergenerational #Community #AgingSociety

We're Nick and Terysa and we’ve become completely obsessed with the idea of sailing around the world and sharing our experiences and information through our sailing lifestyle videos with others. We met travelling around India, and quickly agreed that rather than “settling down” and doing what most normal people do, we wanted to travel and have adventures! We moved onto our 38 foot monohull in 2014, sailed across the Atlantic twice, cruised the Caribbean, Bahamas and Europe, before buying a brand new 45 ft catamaran! We hope you enjoy what we do. Please subscribe, like and share.
