Piracy in the Aegean Sea was a sophisticated operation that involved a network of pirates, merchants, and other collaborators. The pirates had bases on various islands and the mainland, from where they launched their attacks. They used fast and maneuverable ships, armed with cannons and other weapons, to overpower their targets. Once they captured a ship, they would loot its cargo, including money, precious metals, and slaves. When sailing through a channel that splits, knowing which way to go is critical. That’s where preferred channel markers come in. These buoys are marked with both red and green colors, with one color dominant — showing which side of the channel is preferred. 🌍 Region A: Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Gulf, and some Asian countries 🌏 Region B: North, Central & South America, Japan, North & South Korea, and the Philippines In Region A, “green to starboard” keeps you safe.
