Two new things today. First, a replacement for our much abused Makita drill which has given up. The grip on the chuck for changing drills was already worn to the point of being very hard to tighten or release, the motor has been struggling for a while too. So new, more powerful one with harder wearing metal parts. Plus the cutest little kettle for our Refleks stove. Now we don't need to use electricity (if we have the diesel stove on) to make tea/coffere or do the washing up :-) We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. I was watching one of those videos about how to be healthier, happier, more productive by a beautiful American. As so often, they were pontificating on the things that are essential parts of a daily routine. One of the most popular trends for that at the moment is how essential it is to go outside first thing in the morning and get 10 minutes of sunlight. We are enclosing and extending our wheelhouse before winter for protect and so we can move the mainsheet from the top of the aft cabin to above the wheelhouse (better safety and a better sheeting angle). We have nearly finished the prototype/winter hack frame. We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. I've started the 2nd prototype wheelhouse extension (and dismantled the first). We had proved the concept but wanted the central fixed part a little narrower. The goals are a full cockpit enclosure AND moving the mainsheet from the top of the aft cabin to above the wheelhouse (better safety and a better sheeting angle). We also refitted the timber trim on the port side complete with the front zip for the first removable window section. Our first washing day since we connected the first solar panels :-) We have ended with more in the batteries than we started the day despite multiple loads of washing and spin drying, doing the washing up (between them and drinks boiling the kettle on the induction hob at least 6 times), and running my computer (mini desktop with 40" screen). We have been struggling to sort out the battery power for the electric motor as part of our fully electric boat refit. Except for diesel heating for a British winter, we are going to be Fossil Fuel free. These Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries from Fogstar are the game changer for us. They are the Drift PRO 24V 280Ah LiFePO4 Leisure Battery (Gen2), a new product release that gives us 24Volt, 285Ah and able to deliver 300A. With four of them, we can provide our electric motor with the 48V and 600A it needs. This is an essential step towards finishing our huge refit so we can launch our 1977 Rival 38 Centre Cockpit ketch ASAP. The first test of our Dyneema loops that replace metal chainplates as part of our full Dyneema Standing rigging project within the full refit of our 1977 Rival 38. We are refitting our Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising. That includes no fossil fuels, updating the rig and deck plus much more. We arrived just in time to buy more electric tokens from the garage before they closed at 8pm. Then we made it onto the boat with our stuff just before it started to rain. Temperature is due to feel like 1°C tonight so we have been airing and warming the boat with 2 fan heaters (hence the background noise) #BoatRefit #Shorts
