Summer is drawing to a close, and after an incredible few weeks exploring UK and Irish shores, it’s time to start turning Safar east towards home in preparation for returning to work . In this episode, I leave Dingle and sail south for Baltimore, before continuing along the Irish coast to beautiful Kinsale. From there, there’s just one thing left to do — point the bow east and make the crossing back across the Celtic Sea to Milford Haven. With predominantly downwind sailing and gusts exceeding 30 knots along the way, Safar makes quick progress as the Irish coastline slowly disappears astern. In this episode, I leave the Isles of Scilly behind and set sail across the Celtic Sea for the south coast of Ireland. ⛵️🇮🇪 What should have been a straightforward passage quickly turned into a race against another sailing boat making the same crossing — although I’m not entirely sure they knew they were racing! In this episode, Safar sets sail from West Wales bound for the beautiful Isles of Scilly. Having just completed her annual maintenance period, including the installation of a new Darglow FeatherStream propeller, Safar is ready to stretch her legs once again as I head solo across the Celtic Sea. With favourable conditions and miles of open water ahead, dolphins race alongside the bow. In this episode of Sailing Safar I depart Craobh Marina on Friday the 13th, setting off solo for Northern Ireland. The route takes Safar south down the Sound of Jura before crossing the North Channel. The passage quickly turns into what feels like “Squall Alley”, with dark clouds, heavy rain and sudden gusts sweeping through the sound.
