Rain, family, and life on a sailboat. In this episode we tackle a little rainy day cleaning aboard our sailboat Deinde. And go for a dinghy adventure on the Rio Dulce.

This week on Sailing Deinde, cruising life looks a little less like turquoise water… and a little more like boat work. A light goes out. A small part causes a bigger delay. Plans shift. While in the Rio Dulce, we spend our days fixing, scrubbing, rowing… and making the most of marina life before moving back out to anchor.

24 hours before we were supposed to leave for Antigua… everything changed. What started as a concern turned into a hospital admission and suddenly we weren’t sure if this trip was happening at all. With one of us in a hospital room and the rest of us facing a decision, we had to choose:Cancel everything… or keep moving forward. This week’s episode takes us from uncertainty and concern to volcano views, cobblestone streets, and early mornings. Sometimes travel doesn’t go as planned.

We finally arrive at Rio Dulce, and WOW! It's even more stunning than we imagined. From being towed through the shallows to crusing into the lush jungle river to immersing ourselves in the local culture and serene hot spring waterfall. This place feels peaceful and exciting. We thought the hard part was over when we arrived in Honduras at sunset. The days were calm, beautiful and relaxing. Then we left on a night sail and everything shifted. From quiet days to an intense night.

We left the coast knowing the ocean doesn’t offer guarantees , only choices. This film follows our offshore crossing through the western Caribbean: night sailing, storms, long distances, quiet fear, and the moments in between. From Panama to San Andrés, across the Nicaraguan Rise, and on to Honduras, we stay far offshore, deliberately. There are no heroics here. No celebration. Just vigilance, judgment, and respect for what matters. Out here, distance becomes protection. Silence becomes information. And movement… is intention. Filmed at sea. All positions shown are real. A slow morning turns into a full day of small adventures exploring new places, chasing waves that don’t quite cooperate, and ending the night with good friends and sail plans. No schedule, no pressure, just letting the day unfold the way it wants to. Sometimes the best memories are the ones you never planned.

Our first days in Bocas Del Toro were full of simple Island adventures. A jungle hike to Wizard beach, wondering the colourful town, Tacos, and a journey to Starfish beach. From a suspicious dinghy situation to spotting starfish right off the shore. It was a great week in Paradise!

This week in Linton Bay Panama we explored the mangroves in search of wildlife, hiked to a lighthouse with boat friends and visited a sweet lone monkey. But, during a storm one night, tradegy struck. Someone cut through our dinghy and stole it while we slept. We are so fortunate to have great friends on SV Wilma that lent us their dinghy for a few days and oldest daughter as a translator. Just when we thought things were going to quiet down a barge let loose in the anchorage and began drifting towards nearby anchored boats. The sailing community really came together to save the day!

In this episode, our family splits up for two very different adventures in Panama. Shane and our oldest son, Cole, join a friend’s sailboat to help with a full Panama Canal transit, while I stay back in Linton Bay with Hudson and Addison. Their journey takes them through the first three locks and into Gatun Lake for the night, but the real challenge comes the next day when the line-toss crew doesn’t show up as they approach one of the Pacific locks. A missed throw nearly turns into a big problem. Meanwhile, the kids and I set out on our own whimsical adventure. Spotting monkeys on a morning walk, swimming in a mangrove where crocodiles might be lurking, hopping buses into Panama City, wandering the colourful streets of Casco Viejo, and eating our way through the day. After their long canal crossing and our playful dash through the city, we finally reunite at the anchorage outside Panama City. Two different paths, one unforgettable adventure.

We explore the stunning San Blas Islands of Panama. A true paradise of turquoise waters, remote anchorages, and unexpected wildlife encounters. We dive through hidden coral caves and encounter a nurse shark. Life above the water is just as unforgettable, from exploring the charming palm studded islands and cooling off in turquoise water. As the sun sets, the adventure continues. We head into the mangroves for a bit of crocodile hunting, where glowing eyes and shallow reefs keep us on our toes. And one of our personal favs, a visit from a pod of wild dolphins.

Join us as we sail from Cartagena, Colombia to Linton Bay, Panama! What started as an exciting passage quickly turned intense when we were caught in a massive lightening storm that lasted all night. With flashes surrounding us and thunder vibrating through us. We made the call to change course in hopes of clearing the storm. We got a visit from two sweet little birds who decided to move in. One even had a sleepover. Linton bay was a nice calm place to relax with a game and get some groceries.

Join us as we trade the ocean for the jungle and head deep into the Sierre Nevada, Colombia. From exciting motorcycle rides through the mountains to hidden waterfalls, jungle pools, and hands on chocolate tour. This place had it all. We stayed at the beautiful Finca Carpe Diem, explored the surrounding nature, and even made our way up to the chill mountain town of Minca. We arrived in Cartegena, Colombia and after a small delay we jumped into exploring this colourful, historic city. Exploring the cobblestone streets of old town, sipping coffee at cafe Alberto San, Cartegena surprised us at every turn. We finally replaced our boat cushions!!! The kids enjoyed workingout most nights at the outdoor gym. My favorite part was exploring after the sun went down and the city really came alive. In this episode, we check out of Aruba and begin our sail toward Cartagena, Colombia and the adventure starts immediately when we spot a submarine heading underwater right as we leave! Day one brought us calm seas, good wind, and even a visit from a pod of dolphins. But as we sailed on, things started to shift the wind dropped and large swells rolled in, thanks to a distant Atlantic hurricane. We also discovered the challenges of sailing near the Barranquilla River, as massive debris fields floated out into the sea with rumors of live snakes on logs! Join our family as we navigate the obstacles, laugh through the chaos, and finally arrive in Cartagena after dark, greeted by beautiful night lights. This week aboard S/V Deinde, we soak up the final magic of Curaçao. We climb to the top of historic Fort Beekenburg for some epic views, snorkel the crystal-clear waters of Tugboat Beach surrounded by curious fish, and go searching for flamingos in the salt flats (spoiler: we found something much more peculiar 😆 ). 🌵🦩 We end our time here with a cozy sailor bonfire on the beach, saying goodbye to the incredible friends we’ve made along the way as we get ready to set sail for Aruba.
