When we were just about to enter Suriname we where not allowed to sail further and had to drop anchor offshore in the middle of the night... We leave Brazil and start our 10-day sail to Suriname, including lots of dolphins, equator crossing and catching some nice fishes! We ran aground and hit as we attempted to enter the anchorage... We spend our last days in Recife working on finally installing the new windlass we bought earlier on our sailing trip. After we finished the work we continue sailing north along the Brazilian coast to an anchorage at Itamaraca. As we enter the river we end up on a shallow sandbank. We managed to get loose and anchored at the river. We spent a few days exploring the area, hanging out with locals and doing dinghy excursions. When we ar about to leave we use the dinghy to map up the inlet, so not to run aground a second time! After spending about a week there we found that we really like the city; lots of Brazilian vibes. We were warned about Recife but went anyway... We leave Fernando de Noronha, our first stop in Brazil, and set sail towards mainland. Along our sail through Europe so far several people has warned us about Recife... and that we should skip the city. Orcas attacked and sank a sailboat near our anchorage in Portugal as we were planning to continue sail south along the coast, before our departure to Madeira.
