The addition of running and rowing adds quite a twist to the usual coastal sailing race. With 40 miles of sailing (Dazcats Easy Tiger and Belladonna also had to get there), 20 miles of running including 1200m of ascent, there's a lot to manage and think about. The wind was quite gusty at times, adding an additional element of spiciness, especially during some of the drop offs for rows ashore. Skipper Will on board Belladonna managed it all brilliantly, organizing his teams. The runners maintained amazing speeds and Belladonna took line honours on each leg. Shore time was much enjoyed in Salcombe and the weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Many thanks Realm Yacht Club for organizing and to all the boats and crews who participated.

There's always something a bit magical about sailing in company with this beautiful, elegant fleet of mixed MOCRA multihulls. Add to that the buzz among the crews, excited at the season start, happy to see each other again, catch up on the winter's boat works and share plans for the season ahead. The six Dazcats, including the latest addition, the D1495 DMS Vinyl, complemented the fleet perfectly. For those who love seeing multihulls up close, this opening weekend of the UK Southwest MOCRA season delivered a superb three days of coastal racing. The lighter winds often kept the fleet tightly packed, creating fantastic opportunities for some beautiful close-quarter footage and sailing at wind speed and more in just 5 - 6 knots of breeze. With 13 boats on the start line, there was no shortage of action from some of the UK’s most interesting racing multihulls. Trimarans • Panoramix – Farrier F82R • Trying – 38ft Norman Cross • Uno – Grainger 36 • Gordano Goose – 40ft Nigel Irens (1981) • Morpheus – Shuttleworth 39 Catamarans • Saggita – Woods 30 • Ushant – Grainger TR • DMS Vinyl – Dazcat 1495 • Hissy Fit – Dazcat 1495 • Sueños – Dazcat 1195 • Easy Tiger – Dazcat 995R • Belladonna – Dazcat 10 • Bare Necessities – Dazcat 1150 (along for the cruise!) The race route took the fleet from Plymouth to Falmouth, Falmouth to Fowey, and back to Plymouth — a fantastic way to start the season. Huge thanks to the organisers at the Royal Western Yacht Club and to sponsors Ullman Sails, Plymouth Gin and Allspars. The Falmouth dock party was a particular highlight and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved. Thanks also to Fowey Harbour for arranging pontoons for us and the Royal Fowey Yacht Club for accommodating us all with the BBQ. Enjoy the racing, the close-up boat shots, and the atmosphere of a brilliant opening weekend on the water. Filming from on board D10 Belladonna with some additional footage from D1495 Hissy Fit and winning boat Panoramix, Farrier F89R trimaran.

With near-perfect conditions, if a little light, D10 Belladonna headed out to play. The Ullman Offshore Series 25-miler provided the ideal opportunity to stretch her legs and make the most of both the weather and a free day. While Belladonna isn’t racing the series, it was exactly the sort of day that rewards going sailing anyway and we think you’ll enjoy a sunny sail down the coast with us. With four of us on board it’s a fairly rare opportunity to get an up close look at handling the D10 - more hands = more time for media! By happy coincidence, it turned into a race of co-owned multihulls. The three MOCRA boats on the start line were D10 Belladonna, her sister ship D995R Easy Tiger, and Corsair F28 Panoramix. Panoramix was sailed by Andy and Hannah of Highwater Sails, with Andy co-owning the boat alongside Brendan, our Projects Manager and on this day joined by Bruce, owner of Dazcat 1150 Bare Necessities, also on board. As ever, the boats and crews mixed it up: friends, customers, suppliers, colleagues, sometimes competitors and sometimes crewmates. Out on the water, it all levels out. We’re all there for the same reason — to sail hard, enjoy the moments, and have a great time sailing great boats.

Fast Escapes & Island Days With the Fastnet on the horizon and weather windows to catch, Simon and Tracey slipped away for a short but perfectly timed summer break aboard Dazcat 1495 Hissy Fit. What followed was a quick pre-race getaway to the Isles of Scilly - short hops between islands, relaxed cockpit dining, and time ashore exploring some of their favourite corners. Departing the Helford River, the cruise began with a moment that perfectly set the tone. Simon spotted two boats from his past: a beautiful (and allegedly fast) Nigel Irons cutter, and Dazcat 14 Lady Bounty, perhaps the very first Dazcat he worked on, back when he was still on the tools. Seeing both boats looking so well was a genuine pleasure, and Simon’s quiet delight at crossing paths with his own history was a joy to watch. Out west, Hissy Fit did what Dazcats do best - making the most of short weather breaks to deliver big rewards. Island-hopping, calm anchorages, easy walks ashore and unhurried evenings in the cockpit defined the days. Simon’s boundless enthusiasm for anything floating, splashing or moving with the tide set the tone, while Tracey found her happy place among beautiful anchorages, good walks, and the welcome comfort of a warm cabin when the deck turned a little soggy. A compact cruise, full of all the good bits a holiday should have, and the perfect reminder that even in the run-up to a major race, there’s always time for a little Dazcat magic.

What's needed to put the layup together pre-infusion? Dan, workshop manager, talks us through what he uses to ensure a good infusion on the Dazcat 1500 build.

In this stage of the build, a major milestone is reached as all the temporary structural supports and moulds are released. With the main beams now in place and local stiffening completed where needed, the wet deck and hulls have been bonded together as a strong, solid platform. It’s the first moment where she really starts to look like a boat as you move around her. Looking down from above, the interior layout is beginning to reveal itself too. At this point it can feel a little untidy, an unavoidable and familiar phase in the build process, but the structure is doing exactly what it should, the form is emerging, and everything released just as it should. The yard is packed this December, and while we’re well protected from the recent run of strong gales, the relentless West Country rain has taken its toll. With flooding across the region, the ground is decidedly soggy, as you’ll see in the background. Still, progress continues, and we’re very much looking ahead to the next phases, when everything starts to come together for real.

This video unveils the first renders of the Dazcat 1500, featuring exterior fly-arounds and interior fly-throughs of one possible Cruiser model, shown here in an accessible configuration. Built around a single, newly developed hull design, the D1500 platform supports three distinct models: Cruiser, Sport and Racer. Each tailored to a different sailing style while sharing the same powerful foundations. The hull shapes, wide decks and generous interior volumes allow for wheelchair accessibility, making inclusivity a core part of the design rather than an afterthought. What you see here is just one interpretation of what the D1500 can become: a comfortable, capable cruiser designed for extended sailing and ease of life on board. Other configurations explore performance-focused sport sailing and stripped-back racing, all evolving from the same versatile hulls. This is the beginning of the D1500 story — adaptable by design, rooted in Dazcat DNA, and shaped around how people want to sail.

For 25 years, the Disabled Sailor's Association boat, Spirit of Scott Bader, has opened the door to the sea for thousands of disabled children, adults, families and carers, offering freedom, confidence, teamwork and pure joy under sail to people of all abilities. This video shows what that looks like in real life: first smiles, spray on faces, wind in hair, and moments that stay with people forever. But after a quarter of a century of tireless service, working with charities and government organisations across the country as well as private individuals and groups, Spirit of Scott Bader is reaching the limits of the demands placed on her. To keep taking disabled sailors out on the water, and to reach even more people, DSA now needs support to build a new, purpose-designed, accessible boat. And they have chosen a Dazcat. We've put together this little video to try and show we why we believe it's important to support the DSA and all who they take sailing. There's a timelapse of the build so far. It's real, it's very tangible and it's quite a satisfying watch as the boat comes together. But that is nothing to the satisfaction you are sure to feel by offering your support and knowing that you really are helping to change lives. If you believe sailing should be for everyone, and that accessibility should be standard, not special, this is your moment to help shape the future. Your donation helps keep these life-changing experiences alive - today, tomorrow, and for the next generation. Visit the DSA website for details on how to support them: www.disabledsailing.org Many thanks to @ScottBaderOfficial and all the other donors for their huge generosity in helping to provide freedom on the water. Infusing the boat in a vacuum-sealed bag is one of the most critical and precise stages of the composite build process. This timelapse takes you behind the scenes as we prepare the mould for infusion, a stage that determines the strength, weight, and finish of the final structure. You’ll see how we lay down multiple layers of reinforcement, peel ply, flow media, and resin feed lines before sealing the entire mould under vacuum. Every joint, tape, and fitting is carefully checked for leaks to ensure a perfect vacuum draw. The goal is even resin distribution and complete fibre wet-out resulting in a strong, lightweight laminate with minimal voids. This is where craftsmanship meets engineering combining advanced materials, careful planning, and years of experience to deliver a flawless infusion. Watch the next in the series to hear from Brendan (Director and Projects Manager) and Dan (Workshop Manager) how this is achieved.
