After completing the passage from Trinidad to Panama, we spent a little time anchored along the Caribbean coast while waiting to make our long-awaited transit through the Panama Canal! While the anchorage itself was muddy, around the corner was one of the healthiest, most vibrant reefs any of us had seen in years! Our days were spent alternating between exploring the stunning underwater world, and sheltering from heavy rainstorms in SV Liger, hoping that the lightning would stay away. After all the boat work we've done to our catamaran, being stuck lightning is our worst nightmare! Our time in Portobelo ended with the short transit towards one of the biggest milestones of our adventure so far - crossing the Panama Canal! 👉 SUPPORT THE STORY TELLING 😎 Tip jar: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. Ever wondered what daily life is really like on a multi-day offshore crossing? Join us for 24 hours aboard our catamaran as we make our way across the Caribbean Sea from Trinidad to Panama. This is a look at our normal passage routine, from the silence of solitary night watches and boat maintenance checks to cooking up our fresh catch for lunch and watching another Caribbean sunset from top deck. The truth is an offshore sailing passage is made up of dozens of small, quiet moments. So, here’s how we spend our days when there's nothing on the horizon but MORE blue water. After a couple months to ourselves we're back! Everyone is okay, no NDA's signed, just a bit of time to recoup after a tough couple years and to prepare ourselves and our sailing home for our biggest adventure yet! In this episode SV Liger takes to the seas again. Launching a boat is always a big task, but being in an experienced shipyard like Peake Yacht Services makes it easier. It was an incredibly busy but emotional day, as it marks the last time our catamaran will ever visit the shores of Trinidad. From the boat yard to the Caribbean Sea was a whirlwind, so share not only in the launch, but also in our first day on the water. It was Lukasz's first experience sailing the open ocean on SV Liger, and to say he enjoyed it was an understatement! From sailing to swimming to catching our first fish, we couldn't ask for a better start to the trip. ________ 👉 SUPPORT THE STORY TELLING 😎 Tip jar: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. If you've ever stepped foot in a boatyard, the first thing you'll notice is how industrial they are. Dusty. Noisy. For months I've been working on our boat - grinding, sanding and getting covered in more epoxy, gel coat and antifoul than I care to think about! So, to escape it all, I decided to head out to the jungle and do something a little different - barefoot hiking through the Trinidad jungle. Doing this forced me to take my time, feel the trail, and get closer to nature - a rejuvenating change from boat work. Being out and exploring the world like this is one of the reasons I chose to live on a boat in the first place, and I can't wait for the next step in our journey! This video is a little different, thanks to our new crew member Lukasz. A multi-talented individual, he's a chemist, inventor, entrepreneur, expert scuba diver, and has a passion for film and TV. Travel Sketch was always about sharing our adventure and experiences, and now you get to see it through his creative lens too. All of the footage used is ours, captured right here in Trinidad. 👉 SUPPORT THE STORY TELLING ⛵ Gain access to our member only area: https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/join-in 😎 Tip jar: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB __________________________________ After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. In our opinion, Trinidad's natural beauty is massively under rated! When it comes to Caribbean jungle and waterfalls, and in fact jungle landscapes in general, it's world class. When our new crew member Lukasz arrived in Trinidad to join us living aboard our sailboat, we knew we wanted to show him more of the country than just the boat yard. One area that we've always loved is the north coast near Blanchisseuse, in particular Three Pools and Avocat Waterfall. With our boat dog Rose along for the ride, we did a day-long Trinidad road trip, hitting up these stunning locations and getting some delicious Trinidadian roti along the way. 0:00 Trinidad's North Coast 11:20 Beach Time 12:40 Waterfall Hike ________________________________________________ 👉 SUPPORT THE STORY TELLING ⛵ Gain access to our member only area: https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/join-in 😎 Tip jar: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. With the hurricane season upon us it was time for us to say good bye to Martinique and sail south for the safety of Trinidad & Tobago. The final leg of our journey down the Caribbean island chain was expected to take 36 hours, and rather than taking the conventional path behind the islands, we chose to sail across the Atlantic Ocean on the windward side. It's an unusual route, but one we chose with the hope of landing far enough east, to ride the current on the north side of Trinidad into the anchorage. 👉 SUPPORT THE STORY TELLING ⛵ Gain access to our member only area: https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/join-in 😎 Tip jar: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. The original saloon cushions sucked — hard foam and worn-out covers that really didn't make for a comfortable home. So much of this hardstand stay has been about finally doing the projects we couldn't while warranty was happening around us, and now, it's time for the cushions. This video covers the entire process of making a saloon cushion, from initial foam work to the final fit. To get it right, I went with high-quality, comfortable foam and outdoor fabric, because yacht DIY is only worth it if the results actually last. If you’re looking into sailboat DIY upholstery, hopefully, the insights into our fabric choices and assembly help you out. It's not always perfect, but the comfort and longevity really are going to be a game changer for life on board. This project has been a long time coming! In this episode, we finally finish and install the custom carbon fiber table for the roof of our sailing catamaran, starting from a bare foam core and ending with a professional level finish.... we hope! 😅 A full-blown composite build, we cut and shape the foam core, epoxy everything together, fiberglass the entire structure, then move on to the stages of filling, fairing, sanding, and sanding again. Once we were happy with the shape, it was time for gel coat, followed by more finishing work to get it looking just right. To take it from “good DIY” to something that looks pretty pro,, Nino steps in to work his magic and bring the final finish together. The result is a table that not only looks the part but is strong, lightweight, and perfectly suited to life on a boat. This video is a full behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to tackle a carbon fiber-style project on a liveaboard sailboat, the positive attitude, the learning curve, and the moment it’s finally bolted into place. Once again we rung in the New Year in Trinidad, this time not on our yacht, but at the nearby island of Gasparee where fireworks light up the night sky. From there it was straight back to boat work, getting our sailing catamaran ready for 2026. It's a year that has already brought great change, with new crew, and promises our biggest adventures yet! To help us get there Nino is back, everyone's favourite tradesman who initially came to Trinidad to help with our Leopard Catamaran warranty saga and ended up becoming Captain Nino, with his own sailing home and dreams of boat life. It's no secret we love hiking the Trinidad jungle but in one of our recent adventures we came across a creature that we hadn't seen in person yet - the world's biggest centipede! According to all the guys Trent sent pictures too, it's awesome, so in this short clip we decided to share it with the rest of you! As I've now discovered, the biggest centipede in the world is the Amazonian Giant Centipede (Scolopendra gigantea), which can grow over 30 centimeters (12 inches). It's found in South America and the Caribbean, including right here in Trinidad & Tobago. Thankfully this one was not alive - if we come across one in the jungle that's alive you'll be able to hear my scream across the world!! Being in Trinidad right now, there is an element of watching the news and keeping abreast of geopolitical events, due to the tension between the United States, Venezuela and Trinidad. From up our mast we can see Venezuela, so it's much closer than many around the world may realise. After touching on our experiences and through being here, it's back to boat work, continuing with the construction of our custom carbon fiber yacht tables! Now that they've been spray gel coated it's time to start sanding (YAAAAAAAY.....). As always with boat life, things don't go 100% smoothly, but in the grand scheme of things it's just another step in our catamaran repair and upgrade journey. Hurricane season is the busiest time of year for shipyards across the Caribbean, and Trinidad is no different! At Peake Yacht Services the yard has been a hive of activity, as yacht owners return to their sailing homes and launch for another season of adventures out on the water. For the boats behind us, that time had arrived, meaning our Leopard 45 catamaran needed to be lifted and moved out the way. Lifting a 45ft boat that weighs over 18 tons no easy feat, and with hundreds of thousands of dollars and our only home on the line, there's a whole lot of trust placed in the Trinidadian team who do this, day in, day out. Watch Part 1, where we shaped the foam core in preparation for the vacuum infusion process: https://youtu.be/PLaSOuteaYQ Following on from the last video, we're continuing to build custom carbon fiber tables for our sailing home. It's a project we started because the old rear cockpit table was yet another Leopard Catamarans / Robertson & Caine warranty fail, and the upstairs one had a design that could easily be improved to more functional in our daily lives as full-time liveaboard sailors. In this episode, straight from the hardstand in Trinidad, we get to vacuum bagging sections of the table. It's a new process to us, involving a variety of vacuum bagging supplies such as peel ply, sealant tape, bagging film, breather fabric, mold release, resin tubes and a vacuum pump, all to ensure the vacuum bagging process goes smoothly. The goal to infuse West Systems epoxy resin into the carbon fiber to create DIY catamaran tables that are strong, functional and light. In this video, we’re taking on a whole new boat project, as we start to build custom carbon fiber tables for our catamaran. Since our old rear cockpit table was another warranty fail, and the upstairs one is less than impressive, we decided to do some boat DIY and make new tables. Instead of teak or fiberglass, we've gone carbon fiber and foam, designed to be lightweight, strong, and perfectly suited for life at sea. You’ll see how we shape the foam cores, reinforce the hinge areas, and prep everything for a flawless carbon layup. One table folds neatly away to save space, while the other features a custom, non-standard shape designed specifically for coach-roof.
