Exercise, sewing, squirting, amplifier, bimini tent Jump on aboard and join us at Sailing Intermission. Karen is feeling better and back in the swing of things with jumping jacks, weights and dancing. She squirts the bimini as she and Steve get Isabella all wet and clean. We venture into the marina’s parking lot with a large piece of used sunbrella. Why? It’s an old deck cover that we’re going to cut down to a smaller size to make a tent that will protect the bimini and partially shade the deck and salon area below. Steve whips out the trusty 237 Singer Sewing machine circa 1957. That baby just sews through pretty much everything; especially after being tuned by a local sewing center. After several feet of stitches, a needle battle wound and some well placed grommets, we’ve got our bimini tent and are ready for the spring and summer sun load. Ya’ll know how we love dancing and music. The Kicker speakers in the salon sound good and yet there are times they don’t inspire us to cut a rug. Steve begins the process of fishing wires to install an additional amplifier. That DIY project is to be continued. We can’t wait to hear boosted tunes down below soon. We truly appreciate all who watch our journey through boat life. Subscribers, can’t tell you enough how much we love ya’ll and how much you keep us going. Thanks to all who watch and those who take the extra time to comment. Additional Links: Hey y’all, our Sony video camera broke and you can help us replace it. Bikini stretching, batteries, windlass charger, illness, generator starter, pork chops Join us this time for bikini stretches, batteries, a generator fix and pork chops. We’ve been down with an energy zapping virus and are finally on the mend. Even dancing was hard to manage. Karen couldn’t stand being cooped up down below and had to get out on top for some fresh air and stretches wearing a bikini. Maintenance checks on batteries lead to replacing the group 27 engine starter battery, dated 7/20, and the Windlass battery, dated 9/19. The windlass battery was upgraded from a regular group 27 lead acid to a group 31 AGM. Both were still functioning though too old for us. Group 27 batteries are a bit heavy yet Steve was able to muscle them off the boat with little trouble. Then, uh-oh, the charger to the Windlass battery wasn’t working. Yep, another replacement project. New charger, Noco Genius 10amp, is now successfully mounted and working flawlessly. Since we were checking out some of Isabella’s systems, why not start up the generator? Always a good idea to do routine start ups. Well...except this time, the generator didn’t start! It sounded like a starter issue and luckily we had one on board. After blasting and soaking a tight bolt with PB Blaster, Steve took out the old and put in a new starter. We ended the week with some delicious pork chops, brined with sea salt and rubbed with oregano, onion and garlic powders, pepper and paprika. With an added side of coleslaw it was an excellent meal. Thank you so very much to our subscribers and viewers. Your comments and views really help to keep our spirits up especially during these past two weeks. We love having you aboard with us! Strange red head, beach, dolphins, sunbathing, medicine chest, water pump, abandoned boats You never know what you’ll see on Sailing Intermission. Steve and Karen, at different times, both get a visit from a mysterious red headed woman. She says her name is Scarlet. Who is she???? The weather is getting warmer and we venture out to the beach. The wind picks up and Karen ends up chasing and grabbing a bouncing beach ball several times. We decided to cut the beach fun short and go home. Less wind and Karen finds some time to sunbathe on deck while several dolphins happen to swim by Isabella. They are so graceful and beautiful to watch. The water pump has been coming on intermittently without water coming through any faucets. Thinking there was a leak, we have been searching all over, under sink cabinets, in the showers, etc to locate where the leak is occurring. This week the water pump stopped working. Steve replaced it with a new 5 gallon per minute Jabsco fresh water pump. Thank goodness there was a spare on board. And an amazing bonus! It fixed the problem of the unexplained intermittent pump action. Apparently, the old water pump had a broken sensor which caused it to come on without any water faucet being active. Yea, new pump, no leak, happy couple. The medicine chest in the forward shower was looking a bit rough. Steve sanded and applied several coats of polyurethane to the wood facing. Now it looks brand new. Walking around the marina we noticed several boats in various stages of disrepair. We’ve mentioned this before and it still puzzles us as to why people let their boats sit, sometimes for years, without ever using or even visiting them. It’s sad and costly as marina slips are a monthly expense. Thank you for being with us on our journey. Subscribers, you all are awesome and we so appreciate your support. Dancing, Partying, Skirts, Sextant, Walk, Comment & Questions Spring is coming and we bounce into action by partying at some local lounges, dancing together and with others. OK., maybe a little too much partying! Karen and Steve clear their heads the next morning by taking a nice long walk and breathing in some fresh air. On the way, they encounter an unusual plant that seems to keep a party beat on its own. Redundancy is a key player to safety on a sailboat. For navigation, some of our tools include the Garmin Chartplotter with GPS, Ritchie compass and now, Steve is developing another navigation skill. He explains and is still learning how to use the Davis MK 25 sextant. Karen shares a few comments for this week's episode for some cockpit conversation. Listen and see if your comment is mentioned. It’s one of our favorite things to do, so please, keep those comments and questions coming. We love the feeling of connecting with our wonderful subscribers and viewers. It’s time for a little Spring cleaning or maybe clearing. Karen tries on skirts from her closet in an effort to decide which to keep and which to clear out. She still isn’t sure whether to just keep them all and add to her wardrobe or get rid of a few. Maybe you can help her with that decision. cabin fever, connecting the riser, dancing, tiny home, daily life on a sailboat, bags of tools, comments and questions Cabin fever strikes as we let you see some aspects of our relationship living on a sailboat a.k.a. tiny home. Every nook and cranny is filled to the brim with necessary tools, provisions and living essentials. Although there is only about 480 square feet of space including the engine room on Isabella, we manage to make it work. Finally!!! The riser is installed. Steve used special parts, gasket and bolts, ordered from Cummins along with their torque specification recommendations to secure the riser to the engine and muffler. Started up the engine and hooray...no exhaust leaks. Success!!!! We respond to some of your comments and questions. This time, there’s even a question for Karen and she presents it to Steve to read. As always, we enjoy hearing from y’all and are so thrilled that you join us on our journey. Love having you aboard! 🎶 **Sailing Intermission – Dancing, Exhaust, and a Bomb Cyclone?!** 🌊 This episode kicks off with Karen dancing to some surf music before we dive into boat projects and everyday life aboard. We finally get our riser prepped for reinstallation—this time for good and leak-free! That meant cutting away some fiberglass insulation to expose the 2.5" metal tubing so the exhaust elbow could be properly welded. To finish it off, we wrapped the newly welded section with exhaust insulation to keep things cool where they should be. Steve uses nail polish to mark the alignment points for the welder… then promptly puts those skills to *another* use by giving Karen a matching pedicure. He gets a little distracted by the dress she’s wearing but somehow manages to paint her toenails without incident. 😄 With a bomb cyclone headed toward Georgia and freezing temps on the way, we fill our 280-gallon water tank before the marina shuts off the water. That should keep us going for about 10 days. We also take time to answer viewer comments and celebrate a huge milestone—our **200th episode**—with some well-deserved Key Lime pie. 🥧 And yes… we’re still asking ourselves why we moved from the warm Florida Keys to *Georgia*. 😂 Thanks for watching and celebrating this milestone with us! 👉 Like, subscribe, and drop a comment—we love hearing from you! A trip taken in vain. We went to Dallas for a special event except while in flight the event was canceled. Landed and immediately rearranged our return flight for the next day. At least we had time to drive by a few of our old dancing clubs in Deep Ellum and enjoy some great jambalaya at the Free Man Cajun Cafe & Lounge. Brought back some great memories. Our first episode, Refitting a Catalina 42 sailboat, dancing and messing around Ep 1, was videoed at a few of those clubs. Steve’s been soaking the bolts on Isabella’s engine riser’s flange for several weeks. He was able to remove them and take off the flange. Next step, remove the protective insulation on the riser to expose the metal portion and have a welder weld the flange onto the riser. We’re making progress on fixing the exhaust leak, yea! More to come on that...but that’s another episode. It had been a while since the Vitrifrigo refrigerator had been defrosted, so that was next on our to do list. The ice had built up quite a bit and it was definitely time to melt that away. Once defrosted, it was time to celebrate aka dance time. Exercise, jump rope, jumping jacks, life jackets, Magma grill, dancing, comments. Hello subscribers and viewers. We’re so glad you have visited us here on Sailing Intermission. Your interactions through viewing, commenting and asking questions truly keep us afloat. Love those comments and some are featured in this episode. Some are funny, others informative and several are creative and poetic. Steve is in the dark as to which ones Karen has selected which makes it extra fun. Safety is always paramount on Isabella. Our inflatable life jackets are of an unknown age. They typically last five to eight years; time to test and replace. We inflate one of the inflatables while we went ahead and bought two new jackets. What can we say...they were having a great sale at West Marine and just couldn’t resist. They are Coast Guard approved, 35 pound buoyancy with a harness and were half priced. There is some exercise going on. We bought the new inflatable life jackets and tested an older one. Always nice to exercise safety practices and Karen does a small workout. Keeping things hot! The burner for our Magma grill finally became available after being out of stock. The old one rusted out and actually broke in half! Steve replaces the burner and we celebrate by having a gourmet meal of high quality hot dogs. Yummy. Having the Magma back in action is such a thrill we had to grill again, this time with some delicious rib eye steaks. Precooked a bit below and then grilled to perfection on deck. Huge hugs and kisses to all our subscribers, we can’t emphasize enough how much we appreciate y’all. sailboat life, sailing vlog, cruising sailboat, boat repairs, liveaboard sailing, Florida sailing, fishing from sailboat, sailing channel, Sailing Intermission Life aboard our sailboat Isabella slows down while we deal with a stubborn exhaust leak—one of those boat repairs that always seems to take longer than expected. Boat life often means custom parts, patience, and learning to enjoy the pause. While docked, we try a little fishing with our new two-piece rod and trusty Penn Senator reel, joking about landing a 500-pound bluefin tuna. With shrimp for bait and optimism in the air, Karen promises a celebration if Steve catches a fish… though she won’t say what kind. As the new year gets underway, Karen finally removes the Christmas lights from Isabella, and we take time to reflect on both our eventful and peaceful sailing adventures. Steve even sings a few bars of “Good Morning Starshine”—don’t worry, music producers, no competition here. After roughly 1,500 nautical miles of sailing, we’ve learned that cruising has plenty of highs and lows. Long days and nights under sail can be exhausting, but there’s something uniquely rewarding about the cruising lifestyle. Our journeys have taken us through the Florida Keys, Cape Canaveral, Savannah, Brunswick, Jacksonville, Stuart, West Palm Beach, and beyond. And yes—we’re convinced Fort Lauderdale is jinxed for us. If you enjoy real-life sailboat cruising, honest boat repairs, fishing attempts, and the ups and downs of life aboard, welcome to Sailing Intermission. A new rod, rerouting the reverse cycle’s water intake, new water pump, drawers for our cabin, the riser saga continues, celebrating the new year, 2025 memories, comments and questions Steve rerouted the hose for the water intake flow of the reverse cycle air conditioner unit in our cabin and then...there was a horrible noise. Oh no, the water pump died! Luckily we had a spare 500 gallon an hour March pump on board. Whew! You can never have enough spare parts on a boat. With the new pump installed the reverse cycle is now keeping us warm and toasty. The Penn Senator reel that came with Isabella has a new friend. It’s a two piece Power Plus Trophy Class rod. Although the Senator could use a heavier rod, we’re going with the two piece because it’s much easier to store. Keep your fingers crossed, Steve just might catch us dinner one day. Storage is always an issue on boats and Isabella is no exception. The owners’ cabin has some storage space but needs more. So we ordered some drawers to address the matter. Steve put the unit together in no time and Karen’s so excited about having more storage we ordered another set of drawers. Boat life just keeps getting better. The saga of the engine riser continues. Steve is discovering more and more information on the subject including getting a $4,000 estimate to build a new riser. He’s still investigating better and less expensive options. We are determined to not have an exhaust leak in the engine room or anywhere else on Isabella without breaking the bank. This episode ends with us partying in a frenzy to bring in the new year and some of your comments and questions. We love it when you leave a comment!!! Finally, we post a few fun memories from 2025. Engine room, diesel exhaust, exhaust riser, stockings, enchiladas and a hot sauce comparison A few loose screws and some muscle power. We’re still trying to solve the engine exhaust leak. This time Karen joins Steve in the engine room to loosen a few screws and Steve uses his muscle power to remove the riser. Still not sure how to reconnect the riser to the flange to seal the leak. Some projects are just not as easy as anticipated and this one is a prime example of extended DIY. Karen dances in her new holiday outfit of a festive skirt and red furry Christmas stockings. They’re just the kind that Steve would like to stuff. Of course she has a red furry hat to match the swinging stockings. Culinary delights on Isabella in this episode are our homemade enchiladas. Ground grass fed beef with secret seasonings, yep, right out of the store bought package. Oops, spoiler alert. Lightly fried flour tortillas filled with the meat mixture, cheese and some sauce, rolled up and put in a pan. They are then covered with more sauce, yep another secret ingredient, topped with cheese and baked in the oven until done. Yummy. Then things got really hot. Greek Food, dancing, propeller, exhaust, huge crane, exercise, Karen in the engine room, retsina, saganaki, dolmas, Orion, dophins Thanks to suggestions from our wonderful viewers, we got a little more aggressive with polishing the propeller. It turns out it is bronze and now it looks really nice. There is a slight exhaust leak between the Cummins 4BT-3.9m engine flange where it connects to the riser that serves as the exit for exhaust. Steve has contacted both a mechanic who came to the boat and an exhaust professional via email. We’ve gotten two different strategies for properly sealing the flange to prevent further leakage. The situation still needs a bit more research on how to proceed before we decide exactly how to solve the issue, so stay tuned for an update in a later episode. We’re still working on some Greek dance moves and tried dancing on the dock instead of on deck. It’s a little easier, but the dock is floating so it also moves. Keeping with the Greek theme we had a wonderful meal with many traditional Greek foods. Fried saganaki cheese, dolmades (we just call them dolmas), hummus with pita bread and an olive feta cheese medley adorned our table. Some Retsina wine completed the menu. Perhaps that meal will improve our dancing???? It was interesting watching some construction on a new marina. Big cranes and dock sections. Speaking of traditions, we know all over the world there are different cultural traditions as the holiday season is upon us. Here, we will celebrate Christmas with the arrival of family members and friends. Hoping that all of you have a wonderful and safe holiday with lots of joy and the making of new fond memories. A fish tale, Greek dancing, lights, exercise, propeller, comments and more. Come on aboard and join us! This time on Sailing Intermission, our aft reverse cycle unit stopped producing warm air. No fun as the temperatures are beginning to drop. Low and behold, for the aft unit, it was a fish that had been sucked up into the hose feeding the strainer preventing needed water flow. How big of a fish? Check it out in the video around the 7:00 mark. Now, we’re nice and toasty. Steve finished the rear sail locker stairs that he started making in the previous video. They made it so much easier getting into and out of that sail locker. Even Karen can pop out of the locker easily. We address some of y’all’s comments/questions from previous episodes. Always love reading your responses to our videos. It really makes us feel closer to you. In anticipation of the holiday season, more and more lights adorn Isabella. Are there even more to come? The cockpit lights blink in time to tunes being played and it’s beautiful to see the boat all lit up and festive looking. Alright, we’re not Greek but tried to do some Greek dancing. Balancing on a boat is difficult. Dancing with one foot off the ground is even more so. Looks like we need quite a bit more practice. Always huge hugs and kisses to our subscribers. Friends, Screwing Around, Propeller, Double Wall, Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner and More Hello everyone and big hugs and kisses to our subscribers. Many of you have been with us for a very long time and all of you help to keep our boat afloat. Viewers, we’re so thrilled you watched our latest video and would love for you to join us by hitting that subscribe button so our channel can continue to grow. The salon has a recessed area where Isabella’s electrical panels and other instruments are located. There is a removeable African Mahogany wall that did not completely seal off from the engine room. Steve built a birch wall to seal off that area and then reinstalled the original wall. The double wall protects that area from any heat and smell that comes from the engine room. We were lucky enough to have our friends visit for a couple of days as they had cruised down from the north. It was party time, catching up while enjoying good food and spirits and exploring some sights. Messing around with them was fun! Our aft rear reverse cycle air conditioner broke and the unit is no longer putting out warm air. Burrrrrr. To get to the unit, we had to remove everything that was in the aft sail locker. At the bottom of the locker was Isabella’s old propeller. Karen is going to clean it up; another project…It’s quite a deep locker making access difficult. Steve started to build a step to be installed which will make getting in and out of the sail locker easier. Plant update: basil is doing great, dill...not so much. Karen still has hopes that it will continue to grow. 🤞Trying to expand our indoor herb garden, we have now planted scallions. Ending this video, we answer a few comments and questions submitted by y’all. We absolutely love to hear from you, so please continue to comment and ask questions. Lights, Medicine Chest, Jump roping, Savannah, Propane, Dancing We travel up to Savannah to enjoy the holiday sights. The River walk and squares are becoming decorated for the upcoming holiday season. Even the Georgia Queen is donned in garlands and red bows as she makes her way up the river. The medicine chest floor in the owner’s cabin over the years had begun to sag. Using a small hydraulic jack Steve was able to boost it up so it is once again straight. He also added some additional wood and a fake wall which hides the wires running through the cabinet. It really dressed it up and Karen is excited about using it again. Putting up holiday lights all around Isabella’s deck and eating a festive turkey dinner is how we’re getting the season off to a jolly start. Of course following that yummy dinner, going to the gym and jump roping was the next activity. In the last episode you all saw us remove one of the horizontal 20 pound propane tanks that was on board. It had a bit too much rust. This time it was replaced with a new 11 pound propane tank which sits upright next to the remaining 20 pound tank in the port side lazarette. We love hearing comments from our subscribers and viewers as is evident when we answer a few questions we’ve received. It really makes us feel connected to them. Yoga, Propane Tanks, Kama Sutra, Laundry, Geodes, Gretsch Guitars, Holiday Reflections and a Q & A session Huge geodes and The Great Gretsch Sound exhibit are some of the things we saw on our day trip. Continuing to relax a bit from DIY projects, we do some routine maintenance chores. Bringing up some lingerie to hang in the cockpit, Karen finishes up the laundry. Steve checks out the propane tanks on board. There are two 20 pound propane tanks on Isabella. One of the tanks has a bit too much rust and will be replaced while the other looks great. Karen takes advantage of the nice weather and does a bit of yoga on the stern. With the holiday season upon us, we reflect on holiday traditions in the past and what the upcoming celebrations look like now. They're a different than when we were living in a house yet still enjoyable. Plus our children will visit soon, party time for sure! We love reading and answering viewers comments and thought we’d share a couple of interesting and funny ones we’ve received over time. Let us know in the comments for this video if you enjoyed the Q & A session. Hello to our subscribers, you know we love y’all and thank you for being part of our virtual crew. 🤗😘. A big thank you to viewers and please subscribe if you haven’t already. We really want to see our channel grow.
