In this episode, we pick up anchor at the easternmost island of Tonga and set sail for a more protected anchorage before the high winds arrive. Along the way, the boatyard confirms a haulout date for the following day, so we head straight to their moorings. The next morning, we attempt our first haulout using a trailer system, but challenging conditions and a trailer issue force us back to the mooring for another night. When we return the next day, the conditions are even worse, and our first experience with this type of haulout system in Tonga is more nerve-wracking than expected. Will we finally make it out of the water? In this episode, a delay to our haulout gives us the chance to explore a little more of Tonga. We leave Vauleleva for the sheltered waters of Lisa's Beach before the winds finally ease, allowing us to continue east to the remote anchorage of Kenutu. Along the way, we enjoy scenic hikes, the best snorkeling we've experienced yet, and check something off our cruising bucket list that we've never done before on Blown Away. #Sailing #SailingLife #Sailboat #CruisingLife #Liveaboard #Catamaran #Leopard44 #SailingYouTube #AdventureTravel #BoatLife NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? In this episode, the winds have finally eased and we're free to leave the lagoon. With our haulout just days away, we part ways with our buddy boats and head for an anchorage closer to the boatyard. Being near roads means it's time to dust off the bikes and explore ashore, but a simple flat tire sets off a chain of events that ends with a costly late-night mistake. #SailingTonga #Tonga #Vavau #CruisingLife #SailingLife #dahon #dahonbike #dahonmariner NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? This week, we set off for one of the wildest experiences of our time in Tonga. Alongside four buddy boats, we squeeze through the narrow, bommie-strewn entrance of an ancient volcanic crater in search of shelter from an approaching blow. With 40-knot winds on the way and an anchorage that proves anything but easy, we hunker down and discover one of our lithium batteries is probably toast. But it's not all bad news—we share plenty of laughs with friends and come face-to-face with the crème de la crème of Tonga's underwater world: the leopard shark. #SailingTonga #Tonga #Vavau #LeopardShark #SailingLife NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? Last week, we explored the beautiful island of Niue both above and below the waterline, but a brewing storm and approaching westerlies forced us to leave long before we were ready. So this week, we cast off the mooring lines and point our bow west toward the Kingdom of Tonga. After weeks of watching forecasts and adjusting our plans around the weather, we're looking forward to reaching a place with true all-around protection—where life isn't dictated by every change in the wind. But first, we have 250 miles of open ocean between us and our next destination and a customs dock that is infamous in the south pacific. #Niue #Tonga #Sailing #SouthPacific #CruisingLife #CatamaranLife #SailingBlownAway #TravelVlog NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? Last week, we spent three days drifting behind Niue Island on a passage to nowhere, waiting for the west winds to ease before returning to the harbor. Now we're finally getting the chance to fully explore the reefs and unique limestone features that make this island so special. We start with a two-tank dive, then rent a car and set out to explore some of Niue's most remarkable natural wonders. But the clock is ticking once again, and our time in Niue is cut short. Before long, we're checking out, preparing the boat, and getting ready to depart for Tonga. #Niue #Sailing #ScubaDiving #SouthPacific #TravelVlog #CatamaranLife #CruisingLife #SailingBlownAway #AdventureTravel #WorldCruising NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We’ve got just 21 hours at Beveridge Reef — barely enough time to rest before preparing for what’s coming next: a low-pressure system we’re trying to outrun. After a squally night in big seas, we finally make landfall in Niue. But even as we arrive, the weather is already closing in… and the question becomes whether we’ll be forced to move again sooner than we’d like. NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. In this episode, we begin a 4-day passage to one of the most remote and elusive destinations in the South Pacific: Beveridge Reef. A sunken atoll that few sailors ever get to experience because the weather almost never cooperates. But two days into the journey, one engine shut down. Suddenly, our plan to reach Beveridge was in doubt, and we were faced with the possibility of bypassing it completely and sailing straight to Niue. With a tiny weather window, thousands of feet of ocean beneath us, and a mechanical problem we couldn't ignore, the question became simple: would we reach this legendary reef—or would the sea force us to turn back? #Sailing #SouthPacific #OffshoreSailing #BeveridgeReef #SailingVlog #BluewaterSailing #OceanSailing #LiveaboardLife #SailingAdventure #HeavyWeatherSailing #PacificOcean #BoatLife #SailingAroundTheWorld #ExpeditionSailing #RoughSeas NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We may have left the open ocean behind, but we're deep in the "dangerous middle" of our South Pacific crossing—a stage where every decision matters. Chafing lines against coral, weather systems closing in, and the frustrations of checking out remind us that this adventure is far from over. Out here, you don't get to settle in. You don't get to relax. You simply prepare for the next challenge. #SailingLife #SailingAdventure #SouthPacific #Aitutaki #CruisingLife #CookIslands #dangerousmiddle NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? In this episode, we make the unexpected decision to leave Maupiha’a after less than a day and head for Aitutaki, crossing the remote stretch of the South Pacific known as “The Dangerous Middle” to revisit a place we last saw 13 years ago. But our sudden departure meant we were far from ready. During the three-day passage, we scrambled to process all of our fresh food, complete paperwork, navigate a skinny pass entrance, and med-moor in a muddy, coral-lined marina still under construction — on an island that wasn’t quite ready for its first boats of the season. It was a stressful ending to a very long journey. #sailing #sailboatlife #catamaranlife #southpacific #aitutaki #cookislands #maupihaa #offshoresailing #boatlife #liveaboard #cruisinglife #oceanadventure #sailingadventure #thedangerousmiddle #paradisefound #medmooring #passagemaking #yachtlife #livetheadventure #sailingyoutube NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? In this episode, our time in Maupiti comes to an end with a last-minute shopping spree to spend our remaining French Polynesian francs and a special package pickup for a family in Maupihā‘a. Then we set sail in what looked like the perfect weather window… but, as usual, the forecast had other plans. After an overnight passage, we arrived at one of the skinniest passes we’ve ever entered, surrounded by thousands of birds and thankfully calm seas. We couldn’t wait to finally experience everything Maupihā‘a had to offer — dinner with the local family, exploring the remote atoll, and soaking in one of the most isolated places in French Polynesia. But things didn’t go as planned. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. In this episode, we leave Bora Bora for Maupiti—a short hop to one of the most beautiful islands in French Polynesia, but also one of the most challenging to enter, thanks to its narrow pass. The island turns out to be everything it’s known for and more, with breathtaking scenery, incredible manta encounters, and a view from the top of Mount Teurafaatiu that is almost impossible to put into words. #sailingvlog, #frenchpolynesia, #maupiti, #borabora, #sailingadventure, #catamaranlife, #sailingpassage, #southpacificsailing, #liveaboardsailing, #mantarays, #maupitimantas, #islandlife, #sailingaroundtheworld, #cruisinglife, #leopard44, #sailingcouple, #narrowpass, #lagoonlife, #societyislands, #underwatersailing NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? In this episode, we finally leave Moorea on an overnight passage to Bora Bora—but the conditions were much friskier than we expected! After arriving in Bora Bora, we fuel up and set off to circumnavigate the island by bike. Along the way, we stop at the gendarmerie to see if it’s possible to complete our check-out process in less than 24 hours. When they tell us it is possible, we jump into action and begin the final steps of clearing out of French Polynesia. But the adventure doesn’t stop there… watch to see the horrible discovery we made in the bilge, how the check-out process actually went, and what turned out to be our final provisioning run before departure. In this episode, we say goodbye to Tahiti for the final time and make the short hop over to Moorea to stage for our next offshore passage—and to pick up an important package from a friend flying in from the U.S. We expected to leave again right away, but a stubborn storm system had other plans. In this episode, with Brown’s girls safely home, it’s time for a full-on project sprint before we leave Tahiti. It’s a dizzying stretch of errands and repairs. Our new rain shades and refurbished helm enclosure are installed, we complete four doctor appointments, collect a year’s worth of medication, and receive great news from immigration. We also have our final rigging check, and Brown coats the freshly cleaned and tensioned rigging with an anti-corrosion treatment. Along the way, we attempt to track down a burning-wire smell at the windlass and investigate an error alarm on our Raymarine chartplotter. Finally, we install a long-awaited thru-hull fitting and discover a great, easy, and inexpensive solution to a malfunctioning fuel tank sender. #sailing, #boatprojects, #boatmaintenance, #catamaransailing, #leopard44, #leopard44catamaran, #tahiti, #frenchpolynesia, #southpacific, #liveaboardsailing, #liveaboardlife, #sailinglife, #cruisinglife, #offshoresailing, #sailingadventure, #marineelectronics, #raymarine, #windlassrepair, #rigginginspection, #boatrepair, #fuelproblems, #thruhullinstallation NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? In this episode, we set out to solve the engine mystery that’s been haunting us throughout our time in the Tuamotus. Our starboard engine won’t rev past 2000 RPM, and our port engine keeps shutting down completely—leaving us searching for answers fast. We try everything we can onboard: building our own fuel-polishing system, bypassing the fuel tanks, and eventually calling in a professional to help track down the problem. Just when we think we’ve checked everything, we uncover an unbelievable cause behind the port tank failure.
