GETTING OFF-GRID Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. TALKING TO STRANGERS People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving. ALTERNATIVE LIVING These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. A "Behind the Scenes" look at our camp at Grassy Creek Vineyard in Yadkin Valley. We love the Yadkin Valley! The wine country of North Carolina...yes, they have a wine country. It's beautiful, laid back and so far the people are very friendly. As you can see from the video, we are parked at Grassy Creek Vineyards. They were nice enough to offer us a parking spot for a couple of days while we explore the area. Don't worry fellow RV travlers...we are getting the scoop on overnight stays for you too! We visit Mt. Airy, NC and find ourselves in another time and place. Walking the streets and talking to the locals is the best part of visiting this town and it doesn't take long to realize where the idea for Mayberry came about. Mt. Airy is a place where there are no strangers and there is never a dull moment.
