James Frederick sits down with sailors he meets around the world to record their seas stories in remote anchorages and far-flung ports. All the interviews are recorded as a video podcast that is released on the Sailing Triteia YouTube Channel. They are also being made available as an audio podcast for those who prefer this format of content.

On this episode I interview Lin Pardey and David Haigh onboard David’s 40-foot steel Van de Stadt sloop, Sahula. If you know anything about sailing, Lin needs no introduction. Her books have inspired millions of people to get out and see the world onboard small boats. She was one of the main reasons I thought this sailing dream, on a small boat with a limited budget. I had only just met David on the day of this interview but had done a bit a research on him ahead of time and read about his 11 year circumnavigation that was a combination of solo and short handed sailing taking him to unique places in the world, off the normal circumnavigation routes.

From the first few days it became clear that our Leopard 45 had leaks all over varying in severity. We are trying to group similar issues together to help paint an overall picture of what brought us to here and why we are handling it the way that we are.

In this short video, we take a look at which of the Lewmar hatches on our catamaran leaked, the possible causes of the hatches leaking (which can apply to other brands of yacht) and what the warranty/rectification response from Leopard Catamarans and Robertson & Caine was like for the boys in Cape Town. We also show you how we leak test our hatches using a hose or bucket, just in case you're buying or handing over a new boat.

In the past videos we've touched on leaks from the windows, exhaust mixer hose, the skylights and deck fittings; now we're going to share what we've learned about leaking hatches based on our experiences on our new Leopard catamaran built by Robertson and Caine.

This is the same guy who allowed filming during the handover test sail then decided to lodge a legal complaint with Youtube breaking his verbal agreement. If they didn't want to be on camera they had the option not to be but instead chose to be filmed invalidating half the footage for use on this platform without a large blur over them.

Episode #138 : A weekend trip to Avalon before the Pandemic Hit America

The next few episodes were filmed in February before the Pandemic took hold of America and California declared the stay at home orders.

On this episode we push off from Los Angeles Harbor for Camille's first trip to Avalon for some diving and hanging out with James' little brother Colby Thorp and our dear friend Jimmy Shannon.

This was our first adventure trip since the haul out and while the winds didn't work in our favor we still had an enjoyable motorsail to the island.

I`m sailing sailing around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.

Even though this is season 3 on youtube I have already sailed 4 seasons full time but did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since.
