IF you have a boat, WATCH THIS!!!! A lot of sailors learn as we go and as things break... this is just one thing I was hoping wouldn't be too much of an issue. My shaft seal started leaking... and the bilge pumps stopped working. BUT after it was managed, it was another beautiful week fishing with the Spanish Wells fishing guys. So many beautiful memories and relationships were made and I hope you enjoy it.
Huge thank you to Banner with @SailingZola for all his help
If you are headed to Spanish Wells and need a excursion/fishing guide; their Instagrams are below:

We took off from Maldives to Seychelles crossing with our 2 buddy boats: Zatara and Rehua. It did not look like the perfect weather forecast, by any means, but the season for this crossing was about to close in Northern hemisphere... Therefore, we didn't know if there would be a better time to cross in the coming weeks...
Well... to say the least - it did not go well... We have never run so many fuel calculations, measured our speed, RPM, and burn rates for the slightest improvement in economy... We just HAVE to make it! See it for yourself!
We do finally land in the Seychelles, at Victoria, but only on FUMES. But, a bit more fuel onboard than one of our buddy boats that left the Maldives with us!

Thanks so much for watching 🙏

After crossing from France to Spain and Very enjoyable sail along Spain's coast towards Barcelona, we are tucked in the marina and ready for our guests
While in Barcelona we visit Sagrada Família the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world and probably the most iconic and best-known building in Barcelona.
And other landmarks, visit local marinas and get out for a short sail.
It was just enough wind to sail at about 3 knots speed, but nevertheless, we had a good time.
And then Ken goes to check out Barcelona Boat Shows… where it turns into blues :)

Test Sail of the Excess 14 off Port Ginesta near Barcelona. In 11 knots of wind, we hit 8.5kts SOG on a beam reach. Not bad with just the overlapping genoa up. This catamaran offers a good balance of comfort and performance.

During Carnival there are some amazing Soca tunes but sadly due to copyrite we couldn't include them all in this video. Our favourite was DNA by Mical Teja which happened to win the Road March - Check it out here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHBgozLsi7U

On the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday the dual island nation of Trinidad & Tobago celebrates their annual Carnival! There was a huge lead up with many fetes and celebrations, as well as national stick fighting and steel pan competitions. Carnival Monday starts with Jouvert and Carnival Tuesday is largely about the Mas Parade. We went into Port of Spain to see this highly anticipated event for ourselves, going to the Socadrome and parade route along Arapita Avenue.

Season 8 : Hawaiian Adventures : Episode #210

Hello Friends,

On this weeks episode I get a visitor from the mainland ! One of my oldest and dearest friends from LA and a member of my shore team, Sarah, came out to explore Oahu with me for 5 days.

As soon as she arrived we picked up the rental car and headed for the rainforest!

We visited the Manoa Falls Trail and hiked through pouring rain to the waterfall through lush rainforest.

Sarah is a singer and a song writer and I have included a video of her performing at my mothers ranch in 2012 at the end of this episode: please visit her band camp page here - https://sarahsatya.bandcamp.com

Hello Friends,

This is a video where I explain the system I used to sail my 30 sailboat 1000 miles / 18 days to Hawaii using a rigid sea drogue for steering after my rudder was disabled due to striking a submerged object.

I have made a "Manual" that is available for free download and can be saved as a PDF or printed out and placed on your boat for future reference in case you every find yourself with no steering. You can view and download the manual here: https://drive.google.com/file/....d/1-FhlqqLVhGC0KgQnx

In this video I break down he basics and explain what you need for setting up a system before hand and give you suggestions for improvising a system on the fly. I also talk about the process of learning how to tune the system and what worked for me. Different types of boats will have slightly different set ups and needs but with this information you should be able to work something out that fits your vessel.

A long format episode documenting my ocean passage that resulted in my steering loss can be seen here: https://youtu.be/1AZXXKj0p0s

Big decisions & some hard choices have to be made when buying a sailboat.
There are those out there who will tell you what to buy, what gadgets you need and where to go, all with missing out the most important question. It's the foundation on which all your decisions should be based.

Offshore sailing is a different ballgame than coastal sailing. Ensure the information you obtain comes from sailors with a higher standard than dreamers and unqualified opinions. I'm sharing my best practices not only for offshore solo sailing but even how to anchor safe avoiding ending up like Sailing La Vagabond.

In this video, I am busting some myths again and even sharing my recommendations for offshore safety that are valid today and not opinions belonging to a museum. Claiming ancient sailors were better navigators is a false statement, and also the definition of good seamanship is not related to what equipment you carry.

Please also check out my brand new channel @PracticalThomas where the full version with more details is shared every time I have some practical topics in my videos https://youtu.be/DoamO6EUeAI

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm a sailor with a YouTube channel and not a YouTuber. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me.

Even though this is season 6 on YouTube I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 6 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.

| Season 2 | Episode 16 |

Coches Prietos Anchorage to Morse Point,
Santa Cruz Island of the Channel Islands of California.

The last week of 2017 I took an amazing solo sailing trip to the Channel Islands. I visit six anchorages on Santa Cruz Island before sailing for Catalina Island and tying up in Isthmus Cove for New Years Eve and meeting up with Meital. We sailed back on New Years Day enjoying sunshine, great wind and thousands of dolphins.

On this episode I spend the morning at Coches Prietos Anchorage before hauling up the anchor and setting my sights on Gull Island and finally Morse Point. I had the company of dolphins and discovered I was very low on oil.

While I was on my trip I started my first podcast and the first episode is up online now. The podcast is titled “A STERN VIEW” and is something of a cruising guide to anchorages and sailing destinations. Each episode is recorded on location and I cover everything I know about the anchorage from my research and experience at the anchorage.

I also kept a journal in my logbook and will be posting them as a blog with still photos. This will act as support to the A STERN VIEW podcast as will each new video episode that features the anchorage covered in the podcast episodes.

The journal and Podcast can be seen and heard here: http://svtriteia.com

If you like the podcast please subscribe to it on iTunes and rate / review it as it helps in the ratings!
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/a...

I will make the podcasts and blog posts available to my Patron’s before the rest of the public. If you would like to contribute you can do so here https://www.patreon.com/sailorjames

Also if you like this video please give it a thumbs up! It helps me get more viewers!

Thanks to all of you for watching and being so supportive with your comments and likes! It makes me really happy to know you like the videos and to hear your feedback.

Happiest New Year to you all!

Fair Winds,
Sailor James

The 2017 New Year Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan, Thailand. We left most of the sound intact to give a feel for the party and what it was like. For the record, a lot of our friends had minor burns as well as some of us being separated before the fireworks, but it was a good laugh, fantastic fun and we will be going again. I highly recommend going, but be careful. First attempt at video editing.
