Can you sail to Antarctica on a mass-production yacht? They have sailed for 18 years nonstop on a mass-production yacht mostly close to either the North or the South Pole. Before this, he tested his girlfriend if she had what it takes for successfully sailing full-time around the world. And they are still going strong to places, not many visit. These are the real-life sailors you normally never hear about or see on YouTube. They even do it on a yacht many people would have strong opinions against.
Meet Caroline and Paul, sailing a First 40.7 in some of the world's most remote and roughest waters. No fuss and no drama, just down to earth still pretty extraordinary people doing things many sailors would never dream about. Some of the most interesting people I have met on my long adventure are not on YouTube and they definitely are not telling you what you can do.
Paul and Caroline have a blog if you want to follow their onward adventures: https://giebateau2020.blogspot.com/?m=1
Please also check out my brand new channel @PracticalThomas where the full version with more details is shared every time I have some practical topics in my videos https://youtu.be/DoamO6EUeAI

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm a sailor with a YouTube channel and not a YouTuber. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me.
Even though this is season 6 on YouTube I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 6 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
Re-Masting of Aquarius Part 2. Ken finishes the works at Power Boats in Trinidad. We were able to complete the Re-Masting in less than two months from the day we hauled out at Power Boats, to the day we set sail to the VIBE Boat Show in St Thomas. In this time we hauled out, bought FriendshipII, took the masts, sold FriendshipII, and re-masted Aquarius. We had to replace almost everything on the masts from FriendshipII; Lines, lights, anemometers, lightning protection, antennas and wires... All replaced!. To add to the replacement of the masts, all the engine, fiberglass, and metal work, and much of the electronics replaced due to obsolescence. This was a mission that could have gone either way. But, somehow Ken assembled a great team that put Aquarius back together for the party at the VIBE BOAT SHOW in St Thomas. Many people at Power Boats were amazed that Aquarius set sail, on time!
Thanks to all the workers at Power Boats!
And thanks so much for watching 🙏

It's been a while.. but I finally have power again!! This install took weeks of brainstorming and installing, but I am so happy with the end result.
Give a little extra support 💞 The circumnavigation is JUST beginning... all of your help goes towards more gear to make the videos a bit better and the boat safer and more functional for myself as a single hand (and maybe an extra treat for Mako)

MOODY is back on top with this brand new DS 48ft, is it really only 48ft or have they sneaked in a 50 ft'er for you and got you cheaper fees at the Marina? This boat shines in many ways and we can see a family using this to explore the world.

We get things done also this week, even though there has been some challenges. Food shortage in the stores and marina running out of petrol and diesel. Still we manage not only getting things done but also have some fun. I'm also sharing some reflections as a reality check between intense boat work and social life. Who would know the name of my boat would be such a strong statement today.

Aquarius was fitted with an Echo Pilot 2D forward looking sonar. We use the Echo Pilot every time we are close to shore, or in areas with a depth less than 30 to 40 meters. The Echo Pilot has saved us from hitting the reef two times, and made us feel safe while anchoring, and moving the boat in shallow waters.
This is a short video about how the Echo Pilot works, and how we used it.

We have the Echo Pilot 2D Professional
http://store.technilabco.com/echopilot-22.html
You have to choose the Professional model which is $460 more than the standard unit. I believe the only difference is the transducer.
We start in our first stop in Malaysia - Puteri Harbour / One 15 Marina. And we find a small hitchhiker who just like us seemed had a tuff night. As we take care of him and check into the country, we explore around the marina.
Our stay is not long, but very pleasant and in front of us 170NM in the busiest and most dangerous waters in the world, including night passage, which we not looking forward to.
But reaching Port Dickson is not that tuff as it seemed and we happy to come into bustling Admiral Marina. Join us!
Thanks so much for watching 🙏

You will not be disappointed as Aquarius visits Palmerston, part of the Cook Islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It’s an island with no shops, nor restaurants, and only about “30 something” inhabitants. Palmerston has unique history - In 1863, one dude, William Marsters, with 3 wives, moves onto the uninhabited Island, and starts a family of 23 children! The rest is His Story!
When we arrive, Aquarius and Crew are "adopted" by the local family who own the mooring ball we hook. They made us feel like part of the family, and took great care of us - Transportation to and from shore each morning, and a large delicious lunch each afternoon.
We also meet up with a very special local, Bill Clinton. Bill is one of the great conversationalist of our time! While we chat, and debate, all the world’s issues, Bill serves up coffee, cake, and YES - ice-cream! For and encore, Bill makes it rain coconut water……. YOU GOT TO SEE THIS. And If that's not enough, we make a short visit to Beveridge Reef - a submerged atoll in the middle of the Pacific ocean...
Well... sit back get comfortable, and start watchin’… Join us!

With the weather forecasting Bora winds from the north we moved the yacht to a more protected anchorage in the waters of Kaštel Gomilica. When the winds passed we decided to sail to a new bay, heading away from Split and towards the nearby town of Trogir. We ended up settling in a quiet anchorage outside of Marina, coincidentally where the Croatian fleet of Sunsail Leopard catamarans are based. While there we enjoyed some beautiful autumn weather and took our Australian Shepherd Rose for a hike up, searching for historic ruins and ocean views.

As a sailor your boat will never stop surprising you! Its a saying if you think everything is okay with your boat it just means you have not yet discovered what's wrong. I believe lots of sailors can relate to this, and in this episode Kylie again was in for a surprise. Im going dinghy shopping as you know my old one is dead. A dinghy is my car and I need a reliable one. Going out the Pacific with a patched dinghy is not a good idea. Same with sails and other things, it needs to be in top condition. So Im also preparing my sails and other projects while waiting for Kylie.
