After the anchor was down in Fatu Hiva not only were we greeted welcome by old friends, but were almost choked by how bad BE FREE was looking after all the water splash for so many days. We take an express tour of the island to the waterfall, enjoy local hospitality, and even do some trading for fruits. A spectacular island that was one of my hero Thor Heyerdal's favorite islands. In fact, he spent his honeymoon here with Liv after they were married. Such a feeling to have solid ground under our feet again, and to see this island that is one of the islands that has been high up on my list for such a long time. Unfortunately, we could not stay long as we had to sail towards Hiva Ova to check in and had a lot on our hands onboard BE FREE before we could set sail again.

2020 startete ich in Fehmarn, Ostsee. Meine Vision: Den Atlantik und Pazifik überqueren, dann den Tamar River hinauf segeln nach Launceston, Tasmanien. Wie Joshua Slocum, der erste Alleinsegler um die Welt, vor 124 Jahren. Dann Covid und Einschränkungen überall. Ich konnte den Atlantik nicht überqueren, musste ins Mittelmeer ausweichen.

This week I was able to finally sea trial my boat after the engine was installed! After waiting in Florida for 3 months, I was so excited. However, on the sea trial I noticed something off and had to haul out (again)! Follow along as I learn about rudders and how I fixed my lower bearing.

Finally, guys, here is the 2022 HANSE 460. big changes with a cunning new design from the French architects Berret/Racoupeau. The 460 manages to reconcile a maximum of innovations and the traditional values ​​of Hanse - fast cruising and easy navigation.

This might change the way you approach your next anchorage. I had a rough week making me exhausted being alone on my boat. Winds peaking at Tropical Storm force and never ending squalls for 5 days. Dragging boats and hard decisions to make within minutes. I choose to share the reality of a solo sailors life also at anchor and how I deal with challenges you dont want even with crew onboard. Hopefully I managed to share some take aways on how to and what to and also how I approach anchorage from a more tactical point of view.

I learned once again to trust my instincts and also learned a lesson to stay faithful to my own rules and strategies when it comes to anchoring where and why etc.

In this episode, we sail fast to Nuku Hiva in the Marquises (French Polynesia). French Polynesia is really amazing and we truly enjoy our stay here. Averaging 8,9 knots from anchorage to anchorage is pretty good knowing the total distance is 85 nautical miles. We already experienced how expensive food is in Polynesia, and especially in the Marquesas. We don't complain but can't really hide our chock either. Obviously, most things have to be shipped here, either by boat or plane. So this adds to the price level even though some products are labeled red meaning they are considered as necessary and therefore subsidised by France. We are for the first time getting close to sharks and are again blown away by nature and Polynesia in general. Our backup autopilot is not so happy with fast sailing so we had to hand steer this leg. We know that in Tahiti we will get what we need to fix our hydraulics so we just have to live and go with what we have for now. We already learned about the history of cannibalism here, and it's from a recent episode only some years ago. The tradition of cannibalism officially abounded a long time ago. Traveling in Polynesia is such a blessing and experience for a lifetime. Just as I dreamt of when looking forward to this great adventure. Season 7 : Episode #171 : Recovering on Santa Cruz Island

Hello Friends,

On this weeks episode we take a "Day off" from the hard pace we had had the entire trip and just relaxed and recuperated after our misadventures on San Miguel Island.

Prisoners Harbor was just what the doctor ordered. It was like being anchored on a lake most of the time and even when the southerlies arrived they never blew more than 10 knots. We enjoyed the seals and birds in the anchorage and Camille when for a snorkel along the rocky shoreline.

Episode 375 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia

Hello Friends,
On this episode we depart Port Stephens in storms to continue our push North to Queensland. The passages from New South Wales to Queensland were some of the most brutal I have experienced, and not because of weather or big seas, but because of the East Australian Current that runs down the coast from Brisbane, making progress very slow and grueling. We averaged 3.5 knots in 24 Horus on some of the legs of this passage, with full motor on and sails up. Clawing our way up the coast was agonizing.

This video is just a collection of the "highlights" as I dont film day after day of motoring up the coast, because it's simply not that interesting.
