This is a great example in why I normally don't do buddy sailing. Underway I discovered more and more problems not only with their boat but also the crew. This is a serious video with no script or acting only sharing the reality. The oceans don’t care if you’re a nice or sympathetic person, it threatens everyone the same. And disrespectful approach to oceans will cost your life. The aftermath from this sailing was pretty chocking to me. Owner of the boat I assisted don’t have money to keep up with maintenance making sure the boat is seaworthy. And the captains lack of understanding his responsibility and safety for his crew and himself is seriously questionable. On the boat side engine was not working properly, meaning they could not go above 1000rpm. No broadcasting AIS and no instruments working. No radar. A VHF only working 2,5NM when it should work at least 20NM. No satellite phone or modem for communication. Navigation lights not suitable for open water. No maps on the navigation systems only iPhone and the list goes on. On the crew side that should realised this is not a seaworthy boat leaving a marina late before a hurricane with no Jerry cans for extra diesel and already low on diesel. No sailing skills and obviously not understanding the incoming dangers.
My mistake was to believe a boat used for comercial charter would not only have competent crew but also a seaworthy boat. Their original plan was sailing to Cartagena in Columbia via Linton Bay in Panama. When showing them the weather and also the predictions for thunderstorms they asked to buddy sail with me to Bocas. Assuming they where at least capable of 5 kts and also willing to work hard to follow my route being the ones asking for permission to sail along with me. Meaning I had to delay my departure with one day, and even delayed this limit with almost one more day.
I have not shared everything here but I’m serious when saying this boat and it’s crew is an Desaster waiting to happen. All the ingredients for going totally wrong with a different outcome was here. If I had not pushed them so hard to get out of the hurricane zone they would been at the worst possible position and situation when Julia grew to a Hurricane. One of the two sailboats staying behind left next morning only 12-14 hours later. Meaning he was pretty close to us when I went back for my buddy boat telling them now it’s serious. His story is strong telling about the crazy weather destroying his sails on a big well maintained yacht, only hours behind us.
So I have my reasons also based on my decades of experience to believe this story could get a different outcome. Some luck that the hurricane did not form 10-15 hours earlier and grew a bit more. And the fact I did not give up on this hopeless crew. Nor the owner or it’s crew ever realised or understand this situation or the potential outcome. Some boats and sailors should stop

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I`m sailing around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.
Even though this is season 4 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor for decades. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS!
I like to consider my returning viewers as friends. Rude comments and bad behavior equals banning from this channel. I'm more in for quality viewers than volume. I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things that might work for me might not work for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore. I enjoy sharing my mistakes as well as my knowledge and experience without trying to teach you anything.
Discussions around topics designs and sailing are always welcome. Personal attacks are from my perspective so low it qualifies for being kicked out of my Chanel permanently without warnings.
I needed to update everyone on the future of Aquarius. So, here you go. And at the end is a video challenge for Gediminas.... Dude, you said you could beat me... Let's do it!

This video show what happens after the shit happens. Everyone should enjoy the beginning, but those that what to see some real sailor shit should stick around for the rebuild!!

Seawinds most popular model and Australias most popular price. Felix is an extremely tidy one owner Seawind 1000XL. She has been lightly and carefully used. Engine hours are extremely low, and all equipment is in 'as new' condition. She was loaded up with factory options including leather upholstery, oven, barbecue and full teak holly flooring.
Felix has just been put back in the water after a top to bottom refurbishment, fresh antifoul, full polish, complete strip down engine service, complete set of new batteries and all systems checked and tuned. She is a genuine step aboard and sail away boat with everything in ready to cruise order.
Seawind 1000XL's have sailed all over the world and are highly regarded as a thoughtful, easy to sail cruiser. She is available for immediate sale and the owner can provide berthing to the buyer included in the price for three months or alternatively delivery can be arranged.

We left out Searay 340 Sundancer in the Bahamas for nearly 2 months while we travelled to the BVI and other places. So we returned to the boat to get it ready to cruise the bahamas. Of course its never that easy and I had to spend a few days getting the boat ready to sail.

IF you have a boat, WATCH THIS!!!! A lot of sailors learn as we go and as things break... this is just one thing I was hoping wouldn't be too much of an issue. My shaft seal started leaking... and the bilge pumps stopped working. BUT after it was managed, it was another beautiful week fishing with the Spanish Wells fishing guys. So many beautiful memories and relationships were made and I hope you enjoy it.
Huge thank you to Banner with @SailingZola for all his help

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Im hit by the wind force of a CAT1 Hurricane out at sea!
Sailing 1081 nautical miles solo fighting my way through endless numbers of violent storms and even hurricane force winds in the Banda Sea.
This is a true story and not a youtube storm or drama. Its the reality of sailing the Banda Sea during rainy season with the north west monsoons and even cyclones that creates ridiculous weathers.
Amazing close up video of a cyclone forming and the battles I had that even cost me sails after a full knock down in gale force 12 - 72 knots of wind.
Im even sharing my strategies and why I added 731 nautical miles to my route. How the weather patterns works in the Banda Sea, and the effects of the cyclones. Strong ocean currents and also sharing a best time to cross the Banda sea timeline.
I hope this video not only works as entertainment but even could be of a value for sailors coming this way in the future. Its not ment to scare you off, but to share what you can expect and why Indonesia is among the most complicated nations to sail. Especially as a solo sailor.
If you ever wondered about my earlier statements about why you need a strong engine and even a range of minimum 500 nautical mile, this episode could enlighten you a bit. This is a prime example why going blue water (CE category A) without engine is stupid, and why a fully electric is in the same category.
Thank you so much for tagging along, and for the patron's support in making this video possible.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm a sailor with a YouTube channel and not a YouTuber. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me.
Even though this is season 6 on YouTube I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 6 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
Here we go again! This is the beginning of the new adventure, the biggest adventure of my life, sailing my 36 foot sailing boat out into the big blue. Come with me.
This week I finally get away and head to sea. With a friend along for the first few days, we visit the Beautiful Cornish town of Fowey before my last stop in England, Falmouth.
Many thanks to Richard Williamson for the cool drone footage.
I'd love you to thumbs up and subscribe here on Youtube. Also 'like' my Facebook page 'Adventures of on old Seadog' for 'realtime' updates and chat.
This is episode 33 of an ongoing web series. Thanks so much for watching. Safe sailing to all.x
