Season 8 : Hawaiian Adventures : Episode #212

On this weeks video I get my custom stainless steel tangs back from the fabricator here in Honolulu and dive on the boat to complete the jury repair of Triteia's broken rudder. Thanks to Sarah for handing me everything I needed and being dock support as well as filming.

The repair took a total of 3.5 hours and gave me a new found respect for old timey shipwrights. Hammering under water is very hard work and using a hand drill while scuba diving was not a skill I can say I had before this project.

Now Triteia is ready for more adventure with her frankenstein rudder!

With Liger on land we’ve all had to get used to living on the hardstand. The Italian summer has been HOT with heat waves and ash from nearby forest fires falling on the yacht so in between the warranty works and upgrades we’re doing to the catamaran, we try to escape to the beach next door. When Trent ordered our Leopard 45 catamaran we were excited to be buying a yacht with a design that we loved. It was reassuring to hear at point of sale that ongoing construction issues had apparently been resolved. Trent said that he consciously chose to buy a yacht with high hull number thinking that it would reduce issues.

As promised, the outcome of our post Cape Town warranty experience with Robertson and Caine. What's left now is to see how Leopard evolves as a business and responds to cruisers to help them achieve the dream they worked hard and set out for. Robertson and Caine with their upcoming sale also seem to have a fresh opportunity to clean house and train staff to be better equipped to offer a more empathetic response to live aboard issues.

Hallberg Rassy 42, from Largos Portugal to Amsterdam 1400knm. First time sailing a Hallberg Rassy, ​​what can I say she looked after us big time across the Bay of Biscay. we had winds from 17 to 30 knots, and she took it all.

IF you have a boat, WATCH THIS!!!! A lot of sailors learn as we go and as things break... this is just one thing I was hoping wouldn't be too much of an issue. My shaft seal started leaking... and the bilge pumps stopped working. BUT after it was managed, it was another beautiful week fishing with the Spanish Wells fishing guys. So many beautiful memories and relationships were made and I hope you enjoy it.

After final touch-ups and new crew addition - Z's mom is back on Aquarius for the 5th time we are ready to drop the lines and start Season 8 of Sailing Aquarius.
It's a big season for us as we hope to finish circumnavigation in February 2024.
But we still have a long way to go - we are currently in Barcelona planning our first sail to Balearics, Mallorca where we will be waiting for the winds to go south - Gibraltar, then the Canaries to wait for the trade winds to cross the Atlantic ocean. But we will take one step at a time as it's not an easy task for sure.
