In the middle of the Pacific: Intact islands, stunning landscapes. The best places I have seen so far. I sail alone. Reykja is a 35-year-old steel ketch. I meet friendly people, search for weathered tikis, marvel at enigmatic fish and screeching birds. And learn how to navigate the atoll: strong currents in the passes, nasty coral reefs in the unmapped lagoon. My route: From Hiva Oa in the Marquesan archipelago to Tahiti, Fakrarava and Tikehau in the Tuamotu archipelago

I think there is no better time to review the year than now - and it was awesome - we started it just as we transited the Suez Canal and sailed straight to Crete Island, Greece, where we left Aquarius to winter out.
Meanwhile, we took off to the US - Miami Boat Show.
Finally, we were off to explore the Med - first Turkey - where we reunited with friends, visited some cool places, and almost lost our dinghy! Oh and let’s not forget - had our first and only ever red carpet boat shopping experience, due to high marina prices in Turkey we popped back into Grece, Crete island, and did some engine tune-up - and that was SUCH A DIFFERENCE! - she purrs :)
After Greece followed long debated Croatia, that we ended up falling in love, despite that one scary time when Aquarius got almost dragged to the rocks by the sudden Bura storm….
Next followed Italy - with fascinating fireworks everywhere, a bit inhospitable but we made new friends and we off to the French island Corsica, beautiful Bonifacio.
At this point, we felt in full swing like a nonstop carousel of fine places, friends, foods, and good times.
Cannes Boat Festival we liked much more than Miami and met so many AMEL owners, that I’m afraid at this point I lost count…
Then was Spain... Slowly it was getting cooler but we have no plans on wintering out 2nd year in the Med - so we move on... To Gibraltar, Morocco, and Canary Islands.. but - you have to see it yourself... Join us!
And thanks so much for watching 🙏

This video documents the recent sailing trip I crewed on onboard the sailing vessel The Intrepid. We motor-sailed from San Diego, California to the San Francisco Bay area. 10 days, 111 hours at sea and 470 nautical miles. The uphill battle against wind and currents, sailing north on the west coast is no pleasure cruise.
The crew were as follows:
Tim Brill (Owner)
Cody Brill (Captain and son of Tim)
Nigel Howat (English Sailor/45+ years sailing experience)
& James Frederick (thats me).
I have a blog where you can read all the journal entries about each leg of the passage: http://allwaysbutstill.tumblr.com
I will also be uploaded each leg of the trip as "episodes" that will feature commentary at the end reading some of the journal entries and talking about what happened or what we saw on that particular part of the trip.
Please subscribe if you like the video, there will be more !
About the Crew Members:
Tim Brill was a professional mountaineering guide for many years and has climbed all over the world. A few years ago Tim bought The Intrepid, which became famous in 2008 as it sailed around the world by the youngest person to solo sail around the world (Zac Sunderland). Tim and his sons have completed the ASA certifications 101-108 and have several trips in the planning stages. Currently he is owns an Aerobatic Flight School in Reno, Nevada where he teaches people to fly and to do stunts. http://www.aerobaticcompany.com
Cody Bril is a 15 year old sailor and sailing instructor in Reno, Nevada. He is currently shopping for his dream multihull. http://nvsailing.org
Nigel Howat is certified Ocean Yacht Master and nautical handyman who owns a company with his partner Miel. They also do Yacht deliveries up the California Coast. He has been sailing from more than 45 years and has sailed the North and Mediterranean seas. http://www.nauticalknowhow.org
James Frederick is a Sailor, Writer and Artist who currently resides in Los Angeles. http://allwaysbutstill.tumblr.com
Episode 414 : Season 13 : Sailing Indonesia
Hello Friends,
On this episode I show you around Medana Marina on the Northern coast of Lombok. I really like this small marina and its simple boat yard. If it had been possible to get quality boat parts in Indonesia I would have done a lot of work at this spot. A great option if you find yourself having to wait out the wet season in Indo.

After months apart the two halves of our yacht crew were reunited in Gibraltar. Telicia and Rose (Australian Shepherd) moved aboard the yacht and began to settle into life living on a catamaran.
After 55 days of sailing from Cape Town to Gibraltar there was a bit to do on SV Liger, so the cleaning, maintenance work and shopping began. Our forward facing sonar needed to be finished off and we started exploring Gibraltar, finding abandoned tunnels and a few macaques.

This is it, the 10 day period before our scheduled launch and final chance to leave the hardstand this year, one of the most stressful, sleepless times I've had in my life, where unexpected problems piled on and we struggled to get this boat to where it needed to be, putting in everything we had to launch before 2025.
When we hauled our Leopard 45 catamaran out in March 2023, we thought it would be our 3rd and final new boat warranty haul out, lasting just 3 months.... how wrong we were!! Over 600 days later we found ourselves in the final count down to launch having overcome a multitude of warranty issues, examples of poor workmanship and collateral damage ranging from cosmetic damage to structural defects that rendered our sailing home unseaworthy.
For now we're regrouping on anchor, assessing what's left to resolve because despite spending almost 2 years on the hardstand, this is not the end of our Leopard Catamaran warranty journey.

Yachting Reviews' Chris Beeson and Graham Snook travel to Hellevoetsluis in Holland, home to the Vaan Yachts shipyard. Co-founded by serial sustainable business builder Igor Kluin and Nienke van t' Klooster, who also looks after interior styling, Vaan's mission is to lead the way to the sustainable building of entirely recyclable yachts. Igor's shocking stat is that, every year, 78,000 of Europe's 80,000 end-of-life yachts are incinerated. Vaan is committed to leading the industry to a circular model where yachts can be dismantled and the raw materials used again. Igor shows us where the dream becomes reality.

A medley of some of the clips from our delivery from La Rochelle, France to Port Ginesta near Barcelona, Spain.
We experienced some pretty rough conditions on this trip, but the boat handled it well. Great fun.
While visiting the Cannes Yachting Festival in France we met very nice guys - Chis and Heyden - both experienced an Orca attack close to Barbate, Spain shores.
June 2023 they were sailing Amel 55 from Lagos, Portugal to the Med and although both were experienced and believed to be prepared for that - it was still a shock.
They had been attacked for an hour by 8 or 9 orcas and had to be towed to the marina and repair their rudder.
As harsh as it sounds - they were lucky compared to the other orca incident that Hayden witnessed half a year earlier - October 2022, when the boat sunk and they rescued 4 people…
Join us - this is really unique!
All raw footage - at the end.
As of now orcas did serious damage for 60 boats and sank 3 boats.
If you would like to reach out to Chris or Heyden, here is their contacts:

Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

Initially I wanted to sail to Penrhyn, the northernmost Cook Islands. Instead, I end up in a Doldrum area, a stationary calm zone. New plan, new course. Instead of calm, it becomes stormy. I drop anchor in the middle of the ocean, in Suwarrow Atoll. But that's where the problems begin. I'm sailing alone on Reykja, a 35-year-old steel ketch. My route: from Bora Bora, via Suwarrow, to Samoa, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Episode 376 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we provision in Broadwater Bay near Gold Coast and start making our way up inside the Intracoastal Waterway. We had to move the with tides inside the ICW so we only traveled about 10 miles each day. For the first night we anchored at Tipplers Anchorage on South Stradbroke Island and had a wonderful hike across the island seeing kangaroos, wallabies and golden wallabies! We also saw a number of beautiful birds we had never seen before!
