Episode 004 : Season 1 : YARNS; Conversations with Cruisers, A Sailing Podcast

James Frederick sits down with sailors he meets around the world to record their seas stories in remote anchorages and far-flung ports. All the interviews are recorded as a video podcast that is released on the Sailing Triteia YouTube Channel. They are also being made available as an audio podcast for those who prefer this format of content.

On this episode I interviewed Keith Hammond of SY Te Rere in Auckland and talks about his life sailing in New Zealand, The South Pacific and Beyond. This 72 year old Kiwi has a wild collection of sea stories and I managed to get a couple of them on record.

As this interview is being released Keith is currently sailing with a friend all throughout the Baltic and will head to the Med as winter sets in. Thanks to Keith for being a good friend and a source of inspiration!

It’s a sailor’s paradise with great vibes, and we love it here… until someone loves it too much—enough to “put down roots” with a 1:10 chain scope in a busy anchorage during peak season.
Um… yeah. No point looking for common sense here. So, we move on—to a more exposed, much rollier anchorage further away.
As our friends catch up and we get to share a dinner together, it’s time to take off again. We decide to skip St. Vincent and sail straight to St. Lucia—either Soufrière Bay or, if the favorable winds hold, all the way to Rodney Bay.

We continue cruising thailand on our shake down sail on our brand new hybrid electric sailing catamaran. There was no wind but we were still able to "motor" several hours on battery power alone! Its pretty cool being able to silently motor along!

YACHT DELIVERY CHRONICLES : "Sorisa" a 1983 Cape Dory 28

Welcome to another episode of Yacht Delivery Chronicles.

On this episode I was hired by two of our Patrons, Kevin and Clara, to help them move their new boat from Oxnard, California to Dana Point, California. The total distanced covered in the delivery was 90nm and it took us 18 hours motorsailing with following seas (with some night sailing without the sound of the engine thrown in for fun)

We crossed paths with a megapod of thousands of charging dolphins, many of whom took a minute to play on our bow before getting back into the masses.

On the midnight watch we sailed into a massive crowded big ship anchorage that was obscured by a thick blanket of fog. Currently there are 30+ cargo ships under anchor due to a back up at the Los Angeles Harbor and we would have had to slow our process to a crawl if the boat didn't have a working radar.

We got into Dana Point and to Sonrisa's new slip safe and sound where Clara was waiting with coffee in hand.

I have very happy for Kevin and Clara and look forward to following along with all of their future adventures on instagram.

I`m sailing sailing around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.

Even though this is season 3 on youtube I have already sailed 4 seasons full time but did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since.
