SVTONIC Ep10 Boat tour Self-Build 50ft steel hull blue water Sailboat

This week we are doing a boat tour of a self-build 50ft steel hull blue water sailboat hand made (off plans). She is a steel hull schooner and perhaps you can answer a question for us? What is the advantage of putting the mizzen sail on the mainmast instead of the mizzen mast? See the video for more! Oh, we hope you don't get car sick as the journey is an hour to the port of La Rochellehttps://track.flexlinkspro.com/g.ashx?foid=156052.5361.526664&trid=1257621.161992&foc=11&fot=9999&fos=2&fobs=232806&fobs3=156052.5361.526664

Let's talk anchors! What do you use for a decent hold on your catamaran or monohull? What is your favourite anchor and why? Please share your experience for us all to learn 🙏🏼
▫️
Let's face it, when you are out sailing, this is one of the most important pieces of kit on your yacht. I prefer to go the next size up than the recommended. Yes, that's more weight, but your anchor ⚓ is your first insurance on your safety and your boat.
▫️
Use a scope of 4 or even 5:1 (chain length vs depth) up to 7:1 or more in hairy conditions. Remember to add on your bow roller height. So in a depth of 10m your 'real' depth is 11m if you have a bridgedeck clearance of 1m. And remember, you are going to let out your bridle at the end. Take those metres off before you attach.
▫️
4/1 can be difficult to do in the Med when it's busy as many day trippers just let out 3/1 or even 2/1. Make a call based on the conditions and do a swim around. You can always let out more chain when the anchorage calms down at night.
▫️

EPISODE #112 ; A Peaceful Sail Home... (Also, Camille parks the Boat for the first time!)

Hello Friends,
On this weeks episode we leave Emerald Bay and head back home. As soon as we leave the anchorage we are met with 12 - 15 knot winds and happily sail hard until they give out a mile or so off shore. The winds turned out to be an offshore breeze created by the island but it was fun while it lasted.

We enjoyed a lovely warm sail home just enjoying the water and the weather and as the afternoon approached winds came up to between 8 - 10 and we had a wonderful sail home.

During this trip Camille did her beer review for Propolis Brewing "Oceanna" that we published during Season 3's Yacht Delivery Chronicles.

You can see her full review here: https://youtu.be/JloPrgzonHY

The other fun highlight of this trip was as we came in to the marina Camille parked the boat for the first time ever and did a FANTASTIC job! I talked her through the process since the hardest part of parking a boat is not knowing how the vessel handles / turning radius in small spaces. She did great and is excellent at driving boats!

We also have an new episode of A STERN VIEW PODCAST up online for Emerald Bay. You can find that wherever you get your podcasts from!

Much has happened since we last posted! We are in communication with management from Leopard Catamarans and Robertson & Caine, representatives from both have flown out to the boat, the crossbeam was removed as part of the hull inspections and some talented guys from Leopard and JS Marine have flown in to work on the hull with us.

This video continues to give you an insight into what can go right and wrong with new boat ownership. We will be sharing some of the positive developments that have been happening behind the scenes and some of what still needs to be done to launch and continue the adventure.

This video also begins to detail how Travelopia/Leopard catamarans are evolving the speed, care and attention that they give to warranty issues and the still fluid nature of our situation working with them. Trent still has a lot of respect for various R&C and Travelopia staff and is spending a lot of his time and energy trying to steer the situation towards an overall positive outcome for all.

Trent wanted it noted that Leopard/Travelopia choosing to stand with the customer even if at this late stage and by their brand deserves recognition and respect despite the hardship caused unnecessarily in the past by certain staff members and processes.

The non disclosure agreement Trent mentioned was sent to AJ and Tad on SV Helms Deep when they attempted to get a copy of the warranty conditions for issues on their new NEEL 47 Trimaran.
AJ and Tad refused to sign the NDA and have shared it online as part of a series detailing their experience as new owners of a yacht manufactured by NEEL Trimarans. They are new to Youtube so it would be good if the cruising community could show them some support for being brave enough to speak out.

The agreement/contract has been posted here - https://youtu.be/rXjyTF_IyJI

We were again kindly invited to join the crew of "Exocete" (Jod35) in Angra do Heroísmo, on the Island of Terceira, in the Azores. The Regatta was held on the 1st of October and there were 18 participants. There were southerly winds of 7 to 16 knots and a rather uncomfortable sea state. Another great day on the water 🌊

This week we look at sailboats you can use to cross the ocean, specifically the Caribbean to the Azores and on to Europe. We look at Cheoy Lee, Istalnd Packet, Amel Super Maramu, and others. We also look at a tidy Morgan sailboat that you can buy and use to do the job. Boats over $200,000 and sailboats under $100,000 for liveaboard cruising all over the world.

After my topping lift snapped last summer, this was a big project I had to start thinking about. It's not an easy task to add a new line through a mast and installing new running rigging was one of the best ways to prevent this from happening again. It took some trial, error, and a few hiccups along the way. But overall, I am so happy with how this installation went and the quality of the new rigging I chose!

Beneteau has Lagoon Catamarans and the luxury boats in the Jeanneau line up, but Hanse has Moody. A proper Deck Saloon sailboat, this 50 footer packs all the bells and whistles like electric winches and furling headsails, a 10kw generator, Yanmar 150 diesel engine, and a master stateroom with island bed and ensuite bath. A fully loaded galley with Isotherm fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and laundry machine. The Moody 48DS might be just the ticket for your Mediterranean or Caribbean sailing adventure! Starting at a million dollars, this luxury cruising sailboat aims at people who regularly buy power yachts and gives them all of the amenities they would expect to find on a small super yacht with the practicality of a sailboat.

Episode 401 : Season 13 : Sailing Indonesia

Hello Friends,
On this episode we head over to the largest of the Banda Islands, Banda Basar with Mr. Man to get a tour of the Nutmeg Plantation. One of my favorite things about sailing the world is getting to travel back in time by knowing the history of a place. The fact that this was the only place in the world Nutmeg, Mace and Cloves grew is mind blowing to me! And with any rare commodity there is a dark side of the history as well with the VOC killing 90% of the Bandanese people.

If you are ever cruising through the Spice Islands make sure you hire Mr. Man for a tour.

In this video, I share my experience of having a Tender Garage and a pretty generous swimming platform. Is a 55-footer too small for this solution and what's the downside? I thought it could be an idea to share this as more mass production yachts nowadays are offering Tender Garage and bigger swimming platforms. It for sure has its sides good and bad.

Mass production Yachts or production yachts on a smaller scale is where the volume is, so this is also more interesting to discuss when it comes to pros & cons in solutions.

Please leave a comment if you enjoy this kind of topic and would like to see more similar to this.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I`m sailing around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.

Even though this is season 4 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor for decades. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.

PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS!
I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things that might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore. I enjoy sharing my mistakes as well my knowledge and experience without trying to teach you anything.
