So we go - and man oh man (spoiler alert!) it was FANTASTIC! We saw THE BIG 5 in a first day and a half while in Seringeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater Conservation area and Tarengire.

This is a "Friday Bonus" video! In this episode I show you how I made our new winch bases from a rescued piece of timber from the famous sailing yacht USS Highland Light (IX-48) (R.I.P.)

The large chunk of laminated white oak that had been part of the ship for almost a hundred years was heavy and awkward to work with and just a little too big for my tools. I show you how I dealt with this obstacle and how to "round" a block of wood using a chop saw when you don't have a big enough bandsaw or its too much for a jigsaw.

Episode #199 : Exploring the wild end of Catalina Island

Hello Friends,

This episode finds Mister Steady and myself bound for the wild and roughed anchorage of Person's Landing on Catalina Island's West End. The forecast was favorable with light southerlies for several days so we decided to hit this exposed anchorage that we have never visited.

Making our way through the kelp and finding a spot to set the hook in the long slow Pacific swells was pretty easy. We anchored in 20ft of water with 5 scope out and stayed on a single hook for the night.

The anchorage was striking and beautiful and even if you are not a boater this campsite would be worth the trek.

We will be exploring a number of new to us anchorages as we await Camille's return to Southern California, at which time we will push north up to the SF Bay area to cruise and explore.

MY CREW IS SPOILING ME! BE FREE is now full of life with amazing friends that I wanna show San Blas. My beautiful friend, Amanda is visiting BE FREE and I even take Brian and Alisia onboard for this trip to San Blas. This region is pretty exotic in many ways and it's not really that accessible if not having a boat. So it's definitely a privilege to not only be back here but also to share it with good friends onboard BE FREE. My crew is spoiling me and I'm almost surprised I had forgotten how much fun it can be having a crew. At least when the crew is like these beautiful people. Some said San Blas would not exist in 10 years, I believe it will. How much of its genuine appearance is a different story. How many bars and restaurants are needed in paradise and are these what you expect to find everywhere when going to the most remote place Panama can offer. Still is a beautiful place and I wish we could stay longer. But everything comes to an end and this time my friend's holiday is over and we sail back to Shelter Bay

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I`m sailing around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.

Even though this is season 4 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.

It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. I bought a 2001 Jeanneau 37ft sailboat to sail around the greek islands for the summer. I don't have new crew yet so for now I am sailing solo, "single handed" in the ionian islands of western Greece. I was still able to fly the spinnaker from precision sails on this sail!

When we left Morocco there was no wind at all, but the forecast was showing strong winds - and as we went on it was building up fast.
The following day the wind shifted - it’s still way behind us but moved a bit from starboard to port so we had to switch our pole set up - from port to starboard.
To say the least - it was NOT an easy passage, and so far - the longest for my mom, who will be leaving us soon.
